Job Description

SUMMARY The Children's Choir Director is responsible for leading, developing, and overseeing a vibrant and engaging choral program for children. This role focuses on fostering musical growth, confidence, and a love for singing in a supportive and inclusive environment. Essential Functions Plans and leads weekly choir rehearsals for children of varying ages and skill levels. Selects age-appropriate and varied musical repertoire. Teaches vocal techniques, music fundamentals, and performance skills. Prepares the choir for performances, concerts, and special events. Creates a positive, encouraging, and structured rehearsal environment. Communicates schedules, performances, and any necessary logistics. Encourages participation, teamwork, and individual growth among choir members. Qualifications Experience in choral directing, music education, or a related field is required. Skill in vocal, musical, organization, and communication are required. Experience working with children's groups or youth programs is preferred. Background in music education or vocal performance is preferred. Ability to inspire and motivate young singers is preferred.
JOB DESCRIPTION
This is a part-time, professional position responsible for teaching private and group lessons to students enrolled in the Music Preparatory Division, participating in division activities, and supporting all areas of the division. Responsible for evaluating progress of students, preparing students for performance, and encouraging students in their music studies. May have additional responsibility of organizing and leading youth ensembles. Works under moderate supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Director, Music Preparatory Division.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in music or music education is required. Proficiency in playing an instrument and understanding of pedagogy methods is required. Previous teaching experience with students of varying ages and skill levels is required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Plans and executes engaging lessons, including technique, repertoire, and music theory. Fosters a positive and encouraging learning environment. Assesses and monitors students' progress and provides constructive feedback. Prepares students for performance, recitals, and auditions and encourages students in their music studies. Communicates effectively with students and their parents/guardians regarding progress and practice expectations. Participates in division activities such as teacher meetings, fundraisers, registration and recruiting assignments. Supports all areas of the division and demonstrates commitment to the long-term development of the division. Liaises with area music teachers to recruit new students.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists with special projects as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures. Knowledge and understanding of pedagogy methods. Knowledge of classical repertoire suitable for developing young musicians. Skill in playing the instrument being taught. Ability to convey passion for music education. Ability to teach the instrument being taught. Ability to communicate effectively to children, parents, university faculty and staff, and the general public. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Ability to work effectively and patiently with students. Ability to provide support for student development with a commitment of helping students succeed. Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as necessary. Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANT
Part-time includes weekly rehearsals and quarterly performances and/or events.
