Full Job Description Professional Position Description:
Choir Director (10 hours per week) Mountain View Lutheran Church (MVLC) - Edgewood, Washington Position Summary The Choir Director provides leadership, coordination, and member support for the vocal and handbell music ministries at Mountain View Lutheran Church (MVLC). This role is centered on fostering an environment of collaboration and teamwork with staff, lay leadership, and the congregation to facilitate spiritual growth through musical performance. The Director is responsible for the development of the Adult Choir and Handbell Choir in alignment with the expanding vision of MVLC.
Core Responsibilities and Duties Adult Choir Ministry Rehearsals :
Lead the planning, promotion, and weekly rehearsals of the Adult Choir from September through June.
Music Selection :
Select and acquire music that is appropriate to the skill levels of choir members and supports the specific mission of the scheduled service.
Performances :
Schedule and lead performances of the Adult Choir during Sunday worship services in coordination with the Pastoral Staff.
Recruitment :
Collaborate with the Church Ministries Coordinator and Communications Director to recruit and nurture the musical gifts of youth and adults for musical leadership in worship. This position will also coordinate a special partnership with current PLU music students who provide vocal leadership in the choir and congregational worship.
Handbell Choir Ministry Rehearsals :
Responsible for the planning, promotion, and rehearsals of the Handbell Choir.
Seasonal Support :
Direct the Handbell Choir in support of seasonally planned worship services.
Music Selection :
Select and acquire handbell music that fits the ensemble's skill level and supports the church's vision.
Coordination :
Collaborate with the Pastoral Staff to coordinate performances within worship services.
Worship Planning and Collaboration Teamwork :
Actively participate in a collaborative environment with the Pastoral Staff and the Worship Planning Team.
Theme Alignment :
Recommend choral and bell music that reflects and enriches the identified theme and tone of specific services or liturgical seasons.
Special Services :
Coordinate music for special events and services, including mid-week Lent, mid-week Advent, and Holy Week.
Communication :
Communicate musical selections in a timely fashion to the Communications Director for inclusion in worship materials.
Administrative Responsibilities Music Library :
Maintain the MVLC music library in an organized manner.
Instrument Care :
Collaborate with the Church Business Administrator to ensure the working order of musical instruments and identify needs for repair.
Meetings :
Attend and participate in Worship Planning Team meetings as needed.
Leave Requests :
Submit all leave requests electronically through email for review and approval by the Lead Pastor.
Pay:
$30.00 - $40.00 per hour
