Church Pianist Position Davis United Methodist Church ( DUMC ) welcomes applications for church pianist. DUMC is an inclusive community committed to living and teaching the love of Jesus Christ. As a congregation, we are spirit-filled, committed to service and justice and welcoming and affirming to all. Music is integral to worship. The church pianist provides music at the weekly 10am Sunday morning service, special pre-scheduled services, holy day-related services (particularly during Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter), and provides accompaniment to the choir during performances and scheduled weekly rehearsal(s). We are seeking a person with flexibility and input for church-wide structural changes that may impact the music program. .

Pianist Primary Duties Under the leadership of the Pastor, accompany music relevant to worship liturgy, including anthem accompaniment, congregational singing, a prelude, and a postlude. Music includes hymns found in two United Methodist hymnals, and other Christian music.
Play a variety of types of music and have the ability to improvise.
Accompany the choir's anthem(s) and other planned music for Sunday morning worship services, services on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter services, and other services related to the Christian liturgical calendar.
Accompany adult choir rehearsals 2-4 times a month.
Accompany scheduled soloists, children's choir, and music groups in the context of worship.
Understand that a variety of traditions and styles of music are frequently appropriate for the services and that different instruments are often included.
Collaborate:
a) Meet regularly with the worship committee and/or pastor. b) Timely communication to the pastor or worship chairperson if there is an anticipated or urgent absence. c) Assist in arranging substitutes to the extent possible. Job Qualifications and Requirements
Proficient piano musician
Experience accompanying choral groups and ensembles - soloists, duets, trios, etc.
Ability to sight-read, play from memory, and improvise thematic and melodic background music.
Experience in a variety of musical styles, including Christian, and the ability to perform with other instrumentalists.
Support the theological, reconciling, and social justice values of Davis UMC; demonstrate the ability and willingness to work with and support people of diverse sexual orientations, ethnic, social, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
Ability to communicate honestly and effectively with others.
Completion of a satisfactory background check is required for all DUMC employees.
Hours, Pay and Benefits :
Approximately 6-8 hours/week : $32-$40/hr. depending on skill and experience : Paid sick leave and vacation time Additional Opportunities (if desired): Ability to use DUMC facilities without charge for private teaching, and option to accompany for funerals, weddings, and other events (conditions apply).
