The position may be structured as either full-time or part-time, depending on the candidate's availability, experience, and ability to contribute to the broader music program. The accompanist will work closely with chorus and music teachers during classes, rehearsals, concerts, productions, auditions, recordings, and special events. The strongest candidates combine excellent keyboard technique and sight-reading with the flexibility, listening, and responsiveness required to support developing singers. About Adda Clevenger Adda Clevenger is an independent TK-8 school offering an accelerated academic curriculum and a fully integrated performing-arts program. Music and performance are central parts of school life, and students develop musicianship, confidence, communication, discipline, and ensemble skills through regular instruction and performance. What you will do
- Provide piano accompaniment for chorus and music classes, rehearsals, concerts, productions, auditions, recordings, and special events.
- Follow the conductor closely and adjust tempo, dynamics, balance, articulation, and style to support instruction and performance.
- Accompany choirs, soloists, duets, small ensembles, and musical-theater material across a range of ages and musical styles.
- Prepare assigned repertoire independently and arrive ready to rehearse efficiently.
- Support vocal sectionals, warm-ups, part learning, and note correction when requested by the director.
- Assist with scores, rehearsal tracks, music-library organization, concert preparation, and other music-program needs.
- Attend required performances and final rehearsals, including occasional evening or weekend events. The strongest candidates will bring
- A high level of piano proficiency, excellent sight-reading, and strong rhythmic stability.
- Experience accompanying choirs, singers, musical theater, instrumentalists, or student ensembles.
- The ability to read open scores, follow a conductor, transpose or simplify when needed, and respond quickly during rehearsal.
- Knowledge of vocal music and the ability to recognize and help correct inaccurate pitches or rhythms.
- Patience, professionalism, reliability, musical sensitivity, and genuine enjoyment of working with children and adolescents.
- A college degree in piano, collaborative piano, music, or a related field is preferred but not required where professional experience demonstrates equivalent ability.
