THE OPPORTUNITY
West End House is seeking two creative and engaging Music Clubhouse Specialists to help young people develop their musical skills, express themselves, and build confidence through music. Working primarily with youth ages 11-18, Specialists will provide hands-on instruction in contemporary music, including instrumentation, music production, songwriting, ensembles, and performance. You will work with youth at a range of skill levels, build strong and trusting relationships, and create a welcoming, inclusive, and joyful environment where young people can explore their talents and deepen their skills. You will also help interested youth explore education and career pathways in music and the creative industries. Music Clubhouse Specialists work as part of a two-person team and report to the Director of the Arts. Scheduled hours will fall between 3:00-8:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with schedules changing during the summer and school vacation weeks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Music Programming, Coaching & Mentoring Provide engaging contemporary music instruction and mentorship for youth ages 11-18, with a focus on digital music production and instrumentation. Teach contemporary genres including Hip Hop, Rap, R&B, and Pop through individual, small-group, and large-group experiences. Build trusting relationships with youth and create a safe, equitable, inclusive, and joyful learning environment. Recruit and engage youth in Music Clubhouse programming, creating opportunities for beginners to explore music and more experienced musicians to deepen their skills. Lead youth bands, vocal ensembles, and other collaborative music experiences. Support youth in developing their creative voice and producing original music from concept through production and performance. Program Support & Operations Support and provide feedback to assigned volunteers and peer leaders. Track participation, surveys, and other program data to support program quality and organizational decision-making. Follow West End House and BGCA membership, program, and safety requirements. Maintain and care for Music Clubhouse equipment, technology, and program spaces, reporting concerns promptly.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We know that people gain skills through a variety of professional, educational, community-based, and lived experiences. We are most interested in candidates who can demonstrate most of the following: 3+ years of experience teaching, mentoring, or facilitating music programs with youth, ideally ages 11-18. Strong youth development, classroom management, and facilitation skills, with the ability to build trusting, culturally responsive relationships with young people. Proficiency with Logic Pro or a comparable digital audio workstation (DAW), including beat making, recording, mixing, and mastering. Intermediate proficiency in at least two instruments, such as guitar, bass, drums, keys, or voice. Strong knowledge of music fundamentals and theory, with the ability to make concepts accessible and engaging for youth. Strong communication, organization, and project management skills. Experience working with music studios, equipment, and technology. Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent professional, community-based, teaching artist, or lived experience will be considered. Knowledge of adolescent development and positive youth development practices is a plus.
COMPENSATION
The hourly rate for this role is $25-$32 per hour , commensurate with relevant experience, qualifications, and skills.
