Fundraising Marketing German Full Job Description Position Description:
The Director of the Unitas Chorale provides artistic leadership, musical direction, and vision for the ensemble. The Unitas Director works collaboratively with the volunteer members that make up the ensemble, as well as the Moravian Music Foundation (MMF) staff and Board to ensure high artistic standards, meaningful musical experiences for singers and audiences, and alignment with the mission of the MMF.Time Requirement:
Part-time, Seasonal Schedule:
The Unitas Chorale has traditionally rehearsed twice every month, on 1st & 3rd Sundays, January- April, barring inclement weather events or church holidays (such as Easter) with an annual concert held in the spring, sometime during late April or early May.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide artistic leadership and set the musical vision for the Unitas Chorale
- Select appropriate choral repertoire to ensure musical excellence and appropriate challenge for the ensemble. (Approximately one-third of any concert music should be of Moravian origin, or found within the MMF collections.)
- Plan and conduct all Unitas rehearsals and concerts
- Secure rehearsal accompanists, rehearsal space, and performance venues as needed.
- Coordinate with MMF staff to secure music, and ensure all paperwork for venues and contracted musicians is completed.
- Prepare the Unitas Chorale musically and artistically for performances
- Collaborate with the MMF staff on season planning, artistic goals, and organizational initiatives
- Represent the MMF in the Bethlehem-area arts community and at public performances and events.
- Support fundraising, marketing, and outreach efforts as appropriate, including participation in special events, donor cultivation, and promotional activities
- Maintain positive, professional relationships with Unitas Chorale members, MMF Board and staff, guest artists, and accompanists
- Look for opportunities to grow and develop the choir, partnerships and performances
Required Qualifications:
- Training and experience in conducting and musical performance
- Demonstrated experience leading adult choral ensembles
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, Moravian musical traditions and history
- Strong rehearsal technique and the ability to communicate musical concepts clearly and effectively
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
- Ability and willingness to collaborate effectively with community partners, board leadership, and volunteers.
- Commitment to artistic excellence, integrity, and community engagement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with community choruses
- Familiarity with the Moravian and Bethlehem-area arts communities.
- Knowledge of German-language choral techniques
Compensation:
$1500/performanceApplication Procedure:

As part of the interview process, qualified candidates will be scheduled to conduct a rehearsal with the Unitas Chorale on two pieces- one piece chosen by the MMF, the other chosen by the candidate.

The Moravian Music Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution with a board of trustees and is affiliated with the Moravian Church. Since its establishment in 1956, the MMF has become custodian of over 10,000 manuscripts and early imprints which comprise music both by Moravian and non-Moravian composers; sacred and secular; American and European; vocal and instrumental. Over 500 musical works have been edited for modern-day performance and an estimated two million copies are in circulation worldwide. MMF self-publishes instrumental music and has published over 100 anthems- archival music newly edited, new compositions by living composers, and arrangements
- in its Moravian Star Anthem series.
