Full Job Description Job Summary:
The organist/accompanist supports the Director of Worship music during worship and at choir rehearsals.
Job Responsibilities:
Be the primary accompanist on organ and piano for traditional worship service music including hymns and choral anthems at worship service Support the needs of the music director Serve as worship music leader during the Director's planned absences and assist with arranging substitute musicians as needed. Provide organ music for weddings and funerals as available (separate honorarium).
Time Commitment:
(6-8 hours per week) Sunday mornings (2 hours): One worship service plus rehearsing with worship participants/choir Choir rehearsal (1.5 hours) Occasional special worship services such as Maundy Thursday, Christmas Eve, etc. Individual practice time as needed to ensure excellence in worship music (2 hours)
Skills Required:
Experience in church worship, with both organ and other music and hymnody (understanding and familiarity with blended worship preferred). Flexibility to play in blended style services that include all types of worship music. Knowledge of the instrument and keyboard ability sufficient to play hymns, songs, and anthem accompaniments. Ability to sight-read and improvise is desired. High degree of competence on organ, and the ability to accompany groups and individuals. Knowledge of basic music theory and ability to perform simple transpositions or harmonization. Ability to communicate well and in a friendly manner with the church leadership, church choir, other instrumentalists, and members of the congregation.
