The Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts) is seeking applicants for Musicians (piano and percussion accompaniment) for the Department of Theatre and Dance. In this role, musicians will provide support for both major and non-major modern and ballet dance classes.Unit:

Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts) Department of Theatre and Dance is establishing a pool of applicants for possible Dance Musician positions. This pool of applicants could be drawn upon to provide temporary staffing when needed. Given these criteria, this pool will only be assessed when an opportunity arises. If an opportunity arises, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.Duties & Responsibilities:
Work with Dance and Choreography Instructors to select appropriate musical accompaniment, and provide adaptations to align with specific exercises and/or techniques Accompany modern dance and/or ballet classes with appropriate musical and stylistic considerations Perform other related duties as assigned.Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Music or equivalent professional training, education, and experience One (1) year of experience playing for dance classes at the collegiate, professional, or pre-professional level Knowledge of/ability to learn ballet terminology Ability to sight-read provided music and improvise in various styles as needed Prepare multiple genres of music (e.g. classical, pop, musical theatre, opera, or others) which can be adapted for the ballet and/or modern dance class Demonstrated ability to workin and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students fromallbackgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as an hourly employee at VCU. Preferred Qualifications Three (3) years of experience playing for dance classes at the collegiate, professional or pre-professional levelSalary Range:
