Job Description

Perioperative Attendant II
  • Lorain Hospital Shift/Schedule Part Time
  • Scheduled for 40 Hours per week Shift Times
  • Days/Afternoons (1st Shift) No weekend, holiday, or on call availability is required Primary Function/General Purpose of Position The Perioperative Attendant II is responsible for assisting the clinical staff by performing a variety of support functions that facilitate the delivery of surgical/procedural services to the patient working under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated health care professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the organization.
In addition to the duties of a Perioperative Attendant, the Perioperative II, under the surgeon's direct observation, may also provide direct a ssistance during procedures. Essential Job Functions Performs all essential job func tions of a Perioperative Attendant, including but not limited to, set-up of surgical suites , room turnover , patient positioning and transport ation management of equipment and positioning devices , stocking of supplies , running errands, POCT support , and maintenance of warming logs as needed based upon department design . Functions in the second scrub role , as assigned , demonstrating knowledge of sterile technique, and ab ility to maintain a sterile field as needed based upon department design . Able to p erform surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving according to policy as needed based upon department design . Assists with setting up the operating room for ca ses and a ble to open sterile supplies and instruments and dispense to the sterile field . Under the direct observation of the surgeon, the Perioperative A ttendant II may hold retractors and/ or extremities . Demonstrates understanding of preference cards and gathering of supplies, instruments, and equipment. Picks cases according to the preference card lists; assists with case preparation under the guidance of the RN or other member s of the surgical team. Serves as a preceptor for new employees If trained, able to clean and reprocess endo scopes and TEE scopes Contributes to unit performance improvement and/or quality improvement activities . Licensing/Certification BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care) Education High school diploma or equivalent (required) Work Experience One-year perioperative experience as Perioperative Attendan t (required) Patient Population Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. Infant (1-12 months) Pediatrics (1-12 years) Adolescents (13-17 years) Adults (18-64 years) Geriatrics (65 years and older) Working Conditions Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights. May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids.
  • May be required to use physical restraints. May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials.
  • May be exposed to physical altercations and verbal abuse May be exposed to adverse weather conditions; cold, hot, dust , wind, etc. May have periods of constant interruptions Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions
  • Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.
