View More Jobs Pharmacy Resident Jackson, MS, United States Job Description Provides prescribed medications, drugs and other pharmaceuticals as needed and assures responsible provision of drug therapy for the purposes of achieving definite outcomes that improve a patient's quality of life. Reports to the appropriate supervisor.
Responsibilities Job Function :
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Participates in the dispensing, implementation, and monitoring of all pharmacotherapeutic aspects of patient care. Instructs patients and families on use of various medications including dosage, side effects and composition. Ensures secure storage and maintains records of receipt, issuance and return of controlled substances on a routine basis. Acts as a liaison between the medical staff and other health care providers, interpreting and clarifying orders and resolving any potential problems related to the patient's medication regimen. Performs and documents patient medication histories within 24 hours of admission as ordered. Responds to codes and maintains code charts. Evaluates suspected adverse drug reactions and submits report to Manager of Clinical Services. Response to drug information requests from medical staff and other health care providers. Participates in training and supervising pharmacy personnel, pharmacy students and pharmacy technicians. Supervises compounding, labeling, packaging and dispensing of all pharmaceutical products. Performs inspection of assigned drug storage area to ensure appropriate stock levels and storage of pharmaceuticals. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, Inservice meetings and workshops, and attends meetings as required. Prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting while on duty. Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 10-15 pounds with or without assistance. Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required. Ability to perform effectively in a stressful and fast paced environment. Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests. Physical conditions are clean, neat and well lit. Maybe subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions need to be taken is essential. Climate control an ambient temperature variances may be experienced. Exposure to limited amounts of hazardous chemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are a possibility. Hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedly extended due to emergency circumstances. Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply. Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn.
Qualifications Education :
Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited School of Pharmacy and continuing education requirements of the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy. Post graduate year 1 or PGY1or PGY2 and places emphasis on a specialty practice area.
Skills Abilities :
Must demonstrate ability to recognize patients' individual needs based on medical condition, age (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle aged, and geriatric), limitations and planned procedures. Computer and communication skills, both verbal and written are needed.
License & Cert:
Licensed as a pharmacist in Mississippi, and controlled substance license.
