Job Title:
Phlebotomist Job Description This position offers an opportunity for a skilled phlebotomist to support a busy family medical practice by performing blood draws for patients across all age groups, from pediatric to geriatric. You will work independently and play a key role in delivering safe, efficient, and compassionate care to approximately 35 patients per day. Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and blood collection procedures for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients in a family medical practice setting. Work independently to manage daily phlebotomy workload, typically serving around 35 patients per day. Select and use appropriate needle sizes, including 21, 22, and 23 gauge needles, based on patient needs and clinical requirements. Ensure proper patient identification and verify test orders prior to specimen collection. Label, handle, and prepare blood samples accurately to maintain specimen integrity. Follow established safety and infection control procedures throughout all blood draw activities. Provide clear, calm communication and reassurance to patients to ensure a comfortable and positive experience. Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area within the office environment. Essential Skills Demonstrated experience performing phlebotomy independently in a clinical or medical practice setting. Proficiency using 21, 22, and 23 gauge needles for venipuncture. Ability to perform blood draws on pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Strong attention to detail for accurate patient identification, labeling, and specimen handling. Commitment to following safety protocols and infection control procedures. Effective communication skills to interact professionally with patients and clinical staff. Ability to manage a high patient volume, averaging approximately 35 patients per day. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a family practice or primary care office is a plus. Ability to remain calm and patient-focused in a fast-paced clinical environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Covington, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
