Job Title:
Phlebotomist Job Description This Phlebotomist role focuses on performing high-quality blood draws in a patient service center while providing professional and compassionate care to a diverse patient population. The position is ideal for an experienced phlebotomist who enjoys variety in their workday, in-state travel between locations, and a structured schedule without holiday or vacation work. Fluency in Spanish is required to support effective communication with patients. Responsibilities Perform blood draws using straight needles for the majority of collections, ensuring accuracy, safety, and patient comfort. Use butterfly needles when needed for difficult venipuncture or hard-to-access veins. Draw blood from a wide range of patient populations in a patient service center setting. Handle and process blood specimens according to established procedures and quality standards. Maintain strict attention to detail when labeling, documenting, and processing specimens. Support pediatric and infant blood draws when needed, ensuring a calm and reassuring experience for patients. Communicate clearly and professionally with patients in both English and Spanish to explain procedures and answer questions. Follow all safety, infection control, and phlebotomy best practices to protect patients and staff. Complete administrative tasks related to specimen collection and processing with accuracy and efficiency. Contribute to a clean, organized, and professional patient service center environment. Essential Skills At least 3 years of experience performing blood draws in a clinical or patient service setting. Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques, including venipuncture with straight needles. Ability to use butterfly needles effectively for hard sticks when required. Fluency in Spanish to communicate with patients and colleagues. Strong attention to detail in labeling, documentation, and specimen processing. Solid administrative skills to support accurate recordkeeping and workflow. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively within assigned shifts. Commitment to patient care, safety, and professional conduct. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with infant blood draws is a plus. Experience with pediatric phlebotomy is beneficial. Comfort working in a fast-paced patient service center environment. Willingness to travel in-state as needed for work assignments. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on patient service. Work Environment The role is based in a patient service center where the primary focus is drawing and processing blood specimens in a clinical setting. The schedule follows a structured shift pattern: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; with a rotating Friday shift from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The position involves in-state travel, offering variety and a change of scenery while working across different locations. The environment emphasizes professionalism, patient interaction, and adherence to clinical and safety standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Valley Stream, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
