Job Description

Golden Plains Community Hospital is seeking a full time position Phlebotomist. Hours will mainly be in the evening but the days may vary. Responsible for obtaining blood and/or outpatient body fluid samples and cultures from newborns, infants, children, adolescents, adults, geriatric (birth-110 years) inpatients and outpatients as well as Emergency Room patients. Collects adequate and correct blood specimens by arterial, venipuncture or micro technique. Correctly identifies the patient before the blood specimen is drawn and correctly labels all specimens. At all times the Phlebotomist shows concern for and understanding of the patient and promotes the comfort and well being of the patient while performing collection duties. Patience and persistence are required when dealing with patients from whom blood specimens are difficult to obtain. Sorts and processes specimens received in central specimen receipts area of the department. Maintains orderly and timely flow of specimens to the technical areas. Performs many clerical duties such as filing, faxing and maintaining logs. Must use the computer. Projects an image of professionalism in appearance and conduct at all times. Works under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager and Medical Directing Pathologist.
Position Qualifications:
Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Phlebotomy experience preferred. Effective 01/13/2014 must have certificate for phlebotomy from a CLSI approved program. Hand writing must be legible and must be computer key board literate. Must have CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
