Job Description

Physical therapy is provided to support the student's individualized education program (IEP). Physical therapists work collaboratively with a student's IEP team and participate in screening, evaluation, program planning, and intervention. Physical therapists design and implement physical therapy interventions that , include teaching and training of family and education personnel and measurement and documentation of progress. School based therapists help students with physical disabilities achieve their IEP goals. A major role the physical therapist plays in the school setting is assisting students in accessing their school environments and benefiting from their educational program. Provide physical therapy services to identified students. With parent consent when required, evaluate, assess and screen students for physical therapy in the educational setting. Recommend to IEP teams the discharge of students receiving physical therapy as appropriate. Provide solutions for the student's ever-changing needs. Plan and implement individual student's program needs. Provide professional interpersonal skills and communication with school personnel, family, physician, and agencies through written and/or oral communication. Attend s and participates in IEP, staff meetings, team, and other meetings. Establish and maintain appropriate records, reports, and procedures. Gain and maintain knowledge of school based physical therapy equipment, assistive technology, and treatments. Establish and update physical therapy treatments. EXPERIENCE A
graduate from an accredited physical therapy program with a current New Mexico License. One year of experience in pediatrics preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or styles. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advances mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply principles of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phase. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
