Responsibilities Labor Category:
Physician AssistantFamily Medicine Standard Qualifications:
The standard qualifications (duties) or the labor category are as follows:- Strongly preferred working knowledge of the military health care system including TRICARE health benefits.
- Shall provide outpatient health care to qualifying beneficiaries as scheduled by the Government.
- Care shall include but not be limited to continuing, comprehensive health maintenance and medical care to entire family regardless of sex, age, or type of problem.
- Will maintain a program of comprehensive health for the family unit, to include preventive medicine, urgent care, behavioral sciences, and community health.
- Provides primary or specialty medical care with the cognizance or supervision of a physician.
- Responsible for a regularly appointed clinic, compatible with workload and, in addition, provide immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur.
Shall have the capability to:
o Collect and record, in proper format, medical and social historical data appropriate to the patient's condition. o Perform a general physical examination.- May become the primary care manager for a panel of patients.
Duties include:
- Examination of patients, formulation differential diagnostic plans, defines and orders required diagnostic testing.
- Interpretation of examination findings and test results, and implementation of treatment plans.
- Coordination and approval of nurse triage and plan of care as suggested by nursing algorithm.
- Determines need for consultation and assists in medical care and treatment provided at the direction of other specialists.
- Approving/disapproving subspecialty referrals.
- Answering patient telephone consults with the assistance of clinic staff.
- Providing primary and secondary preventive maintenance care.
- Admit inpatients as per the local MTF instructions.
- Recognize those more complicated cases, initiate treatment (if appropriate), and refer to a higher level of medical expertise for diagnosis and/or treatment.
- Ensures compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.
- Plan and initiate proper treatment within defined privileges and the scope of practice of the facility.
- Identify and report those situations and individual cases which have public health significance and carry out effective control measures.
- Clearly communicate to other health personnel either orally or in writing the findings, diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen.
- Stabilize and manage a patient in a medical or surgical emergency and/or transfer to physician care.
- Determine appropriate means of evacuation of emergency patients, prepare patients for evacuation, and arrange for evacuation support.
- Perform the following blocks: Digital, Local Infiltration, and Intercostal
- Maintain inpatient and outpatient medical records in accordance with MTF procedures.
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization. Effectively uses appropriate communication format in addressing professional issues.
- Excellent oral communication skills for patient/family education and telephone triage of patients.
- Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity, including telephone contacts, in accordance with requirements.
- Participates in the orientation and training of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.
- May be required to work various shifts or augment clinical provider support during the absence of other team providers due to illness, leave or deployment
- Be capable of adequately diagnosing and treating a wide-range of pediatric and adult acute and chronic diseases and injuries including but not limited to conditions of the: o Skin, Pulmonary System, Throat, Lymphatic System, Head, Gastrointestinal System, Neck, Central Nervous System, Eyes Musculoskeletal System, Cardiovascular System, Endocrine System, Ears, Genitourinary System, Psychiatric and Behavioral Health, Nose & Reproductive System • Have sufficient experience to be able to adequately perform medical procedures to include, but not limited to, the following: Basic Life Support Advanced Life Support Pediatric Advanced Life Support Secure and maintain an adequate airway to include endotracheal intubation Cardioversion of life-threatening arrhythmias Simple minor surgical procedures: punch biopsies, excision of skin lesions, wound closure, and basic wound debridement.
- Ensures a safe work environment, employee safe work habits and patient safety IAW regulatory agencies, infection control policies, and process improvement initiatives.
- Prepare records and reports as required in support of services rendered in accordance with established procedures.
- Attend and participate in patient care reports, patient care conferences, team conferences, professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities only to the extent that such attendance and participation is relative to his/her assigned cases and/or performance of services as determined by the supervisor.
- The contractor will abide by medical staff bylaws upon acceptance of privileges.

Degree/Education:
Be a graduate Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner qualified by academic and practical education to provide patient services as a physician extender under supervision of a physician. Be a graduate of a Physician Assistant Training Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), or its predecessors, and acceptable to the Surgeon General, USAF, is mandatory.- OR•Must have successfully completed all education and training requirements leading to and graduated from an accredited national, state or military equivalent school (MSN or DNP degree) for Nurse Practitioner (Family and/ or Geriatric Specialty) •
Experience:
Have at least 24 months of experience as a Physician Assistant within the last 36 months- AND•Recent experience in an Outpatient Clinical Setting; providers will be required to see pediatric, family medicine and geriatric patients.
Board Certification:
Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants (NCCPA)Licensure:
For positions involving patient care, candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted Physician Assistant license to practice in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.Security:
