Job Description
Company Overview Since 1944, Unistrut Service Company has provided distribution materials, engineered framing systems, and value-added services including cutting, kitting, and bundling. With experienced engineers and product specialists, the company supports projects from pre-construction design through successful completion. Position Summary The Plant Manager is responsible for leading and executing day-to-day plant operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective production aligned with company goals. This role oversees all plant activities, including production, staffing, inventory, and equipment, while ensuring adherence to quality standards, production schedules, and operational priorities established by the Director of Operations. The Plant Manager drives accountability, maintains operational discipline, and fosters continuous improvement across the facility while delivering on key performance outcomes. Key Responsibilities Lead and oversee all plant operations, including fabrication, production, and shipping, ensuring alignment with production schedules, on-time delivery, and quality standards. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized facility while driving compliance and reducing safety risks. Supervise, coach, and hold plant personnel accountable for performance, productivity, and attendance. Plan and deploy labor effectively to meet operational priorities and optimize throughput and efficiency. Maintain active floor presence to monitor workflow, resolve issues in real time, and reinforce operational discipline. Oversee equipment readiness, maintenance coordination, and inventory control to support uninterrupted operations. Analyze production performance (throughput, labor utilization, order accuracy) and implement improvements to drive efficiency and reduce bottlenecks. Manage administrative responsibilities including timecard approvals, reporting, corrective actions, and support for hiring and training. Partner closely with the Director of Operations to execute priorities, communicate real-time updates, and escalate risks related to labor, materials, equipment, or workflow constraints. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field preferred Equivalent combination of education and relevant plant operations leadership experience will be considered 5+ years of manufacturing or plant operations leadership experience Experience using ERP/MRP systems and production scheduling tools Demonstrated ability to coordinate across production, warehouse, shipping, and supply chain functions, supported by strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills Proven ability to build accountability and improve performance within hourly production teams Working knowledge of production workflows and inventory control, including experience managing inventory processes and reducing material variance in performance-driven environments Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated success improving throughput, labor efficiency, and on-time delivery performance Experience implementing or operating within Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement frameworks Track record of scaling production or supporting rapid growth initiatives Experience partnering cross-functionally with engineering, sales, and project management teams Pre-Employment Requirements Valid Driver's License & Evidence of Ability to Insure Criminal Justice Background Check (state and federal) Drug Test (5-panel) E-Verify eligibility verification Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8-10 hours per day) within a manufacturing environment Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis Frequent use of hands for handling materials, operating equipment, and completing administrative tasks Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed to inspect equipment, materials, and production activities Ability to safely operate or oversee the use of standard manufacturing tools and equipment while wearing the appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Ability to sit for extended periods while performing administrative and reporting duties Frequent use of a computer, including typing, data entry, and report generation Ability to operate standard office equipment such as phones, printers, scanners, and copier systems Visual and auditory ability to monitor operations, read documentation, and communicate effectively in both office and production environments Work Schedule This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Overtime may be offered based on need. Weekend work may be required based on company needs. Company Benefits Benefit eligibility begins on the first of the month following the completion of 30 days of employment.
