Job Description:
Job Summary The Plant Manager provides leadership to supervisory staff and ensures that all packing house operations are conducted in a safe, efficient, and productive manner. This role requires close oversight of fruit handling processes and effective coordination across multiple departments to achieve production and shipping goals. The Plant Manager may be temporarily or permanently assigned to another plant as operational needs require. Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Monitor and manage daily aspects of lemon processing, including receiving, treatment, washing, grading, sizing, and storage.
  • Ensure accurate fruit segregation and tracking by grower, pool, and district.
  • Oversee timely order fulfillment in accordance with customer specifications and market requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Department to address equipment issues and maintain safe operations.
  • Collaborate on large-scale projects and continuous process improvements.
  • Prepare and submit accurate daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
  • Enforce compliance with all company programs and policies, including safety, food safety, and the Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).
  • Support employee relations initiatives to maintain a positive, professional, and safe workplace.
Essential Job Functions 1. Maintain reliable attendance and adhere to a flexible work schedule as required by operations. 2. Monitor and enforce plant quality standards. 3. Manage fruit processing and storage to meet company standards for quality, size, and color while maximizing available inventory for shipment. 4. Oversee proper fruit segregation by grower and district and verify consistency of grower samples. 5. Ensure shipping schedules consistently meet customer and market requirements. 6. Train employees to perform their duties safely and efficiently. 7. Provide leadership and direction to plant staff through effective delegation and supervision. 8. Foster positive and professional working relationships across all departments. 9. Demonstrate computer literacy and comfort with standard digital tools, including Microsoft Office, email, and web-based systems. 10. Maintain basic familiarity with the Association ERP system as it relates to production. 11. Conduct daily plant inspections and collaborate with maintenance to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. 12. Lead and participate in employee training, safety meetings, and operational inspections. 13. Prepare, review, and submit accurate and timely reports and records as required. 14. Serve as a liaison with growers, vendors, and government agencies as directed. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proven leadership, supervisory, and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staff performance and foster a positive work environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of packing house operations, including fruit handling, processing, storage, and shipping.
  • Ability to interpret production and financial reports; working knowledge of basic accounting and labor cost analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to plan staffing levels and manage costs.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with internal departments and external stakeholders.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license. General Physical Activities Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable individuals with known disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Requires frequent physical activity including climbing (stairs), lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, standing, and handling materials.
  • Lifting requirement: up to 40 pounds.
