Job Description

Meridian Charter Township is looking for candidates for the position of Part-Time Police Cadet. The position is ideal for college students who are 18 or older and looking to get into the criminal justice field. This position is available to students who are enrolled in a college or university. Police cadets work approximately 20 hours per week and your hours are set based on your school schedule. The cadet desk is open seven days a week from 7 am to 11 pm including weekends and holidays. Our cadet program has proven to be our best tool for recruiting future MTPD officers. In the past three years, MTPD has sponsored and / or hired six of our former police cadets for full-time police officer positions. Our police cadets work the front desk and are responsible for the following duties: DUTIES Office and clerical duties Equipment and facility maintenance Routine police service requests at the reception area Report writing in minor incidents Answering and directing incoming phone calls Selected community service assignments Substitute as crossing guard Assisting in training of officers (range, AVI, etc.)
QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled as a student at an institution of higher education or at discretion of Chief of Police. Criminal Justice students preferred. An interest in law enforcement or related field. This includes problem-solving Ability to understand and carry out oral and written orders/instructions Ability to analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective, reasonable course of action Ability to work courteously and professionally with the public Ability to develop cooperative working relationships with fellow employees Ability to support the mission of Meridian Township Police Department United States Citizen Must have a valid Driver's License
