POSITION OVERVIEW

Police Officers with the Hobart Police Department serve as protectors of the community by enforcing laws, preserving peace, responding to emergencies, and building positive relationships with the public. Officers are expected to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, and dedication to public service while maintaining the highest ethical standards.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Patrol assigned areas to deter crime and ensure public safety Respond to emergency calls, accidents, disturbances, and criminal incidents Conduct investigations by gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses and suspects, and preparing detailed reports Enforce local, state, and federal laws Provide first aid and CPR during emergency situations when necessary Utilize conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques to safely manage tense situations Engage with the community through proactive policing and outreach efforts Operate police vehicles and department equipment safely and professionally

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Strong communication and interpersonal skills Excellent report writing and documentation abilities Ability to exercise sound judgment under pressure High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team Physical ability to perform patrol duties and law enforcement responsibilities CLEET certification preferred, but qualified non-certified applicants are encouraged to apply
