Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the assigned Director/Manager or Supervisor in the Department of Education. This position is for students to acquire practical experience and participate in the Pueblo of Santa Ana's internship program. Interns will receive first-hand experience in duties, activities, and special projects specifically designed for interns by the participating department. Interns are responsible for leading and implementing activities and programs for assigned department(s).
Participating Departments:
Internships are hosted across a wide range of Pueblo departments, including Education & Early Childhood, Language & Culture, Library Services, Natural Resources, Public Works, Agriculture (Nursery & Vineyard), Wellness & Recreation, Digital Media & Communications. This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and is not all-inclusive.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Participate in duties and activities as developed by department staff.
  • Attend summer program consistently.
  • Participates in activities in a safe manner by being drug and alcohol free.
  • Interacts and maintains a positive attitude and rapport with community, staff and other interns of the program.
  • Attends field trips and other activities as a positive role model.
  • Offers assistance and ideas to staff with coordination of planned activities as needed.
  • Always maintain a courteous and positive attitude.
  • Wears appropriate clothing for the job duties assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate and attending or enrolled in a Technical School or College. Must be a student with a GPA of 2.5 or greater. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background and fingerprinting investigation, including a motor vehicle check. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver's license and be insurable under the Pueblo's insurance. Must be willing to get certified in First Aid and CPR; food handlers.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:
  • Ability to follow safety standards and practices.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and professionally with staff, community members, and children.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing with people of varying age groups and skill levels.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and have fun
  • Ability to remain calm in challenging situations and respond quickly to emergencies.
  • Works well in a team environment and accomplishes results as required.
  • Demonstrates initiative to do work
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand, sit, use hands and fingers to handle or feel and talk or hear. The intern frequently is required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in a variety of settings, from office to outdoor environments and may include exposure to inclement weather. Noise levels range from moderate to loud. Evening and/or weekend work may be required. There are frequent interactions with other interns, community members, and employees.
