Job Description

Pre-Award Specialist (CS26-253) Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) invites applications for the position of Pre-Award Specialist (CS26-253), which builds on a strong foundation of achievement and contributes to the realization of ambitious institutional goals. What You Will Do This position exercises discretion and independent judgment in supporting faculty/staff and the Office of Research and Projects (ORP) in identifying external funding sources, initiating the development of and providing guidance in the collaborative efforts of interdisciplinary teams, supporting the development of quality proposals, ensuring compliance with funding agency and university guidelines and documenting the completeness of all proposals prior to submission in the appropriate portal. The position conducts public-facing professional development activities related to grant development, Office of Research and Project systems and internal funding program outreach. Additionally, the position assists the Associate Dean and Director of Grant Development in maintaining requisite databases, the ORP website, and increasing the number of submissions and awards. The successful applicant must function well in a high work volume environment requiring prioritizing and meeting deadlines, must take initiative, exercising independent judgment and discretion, must be detail oriented, and must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Position may include grant writing support in relevant instances.
FLSA:
Non-Exempt Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, economics or a field related to the position Additional knowledge, education, training and/or sponsored project experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position may be required: AND
  • Professional experience with budget creation and using Excel.
  • Professional experience with simultaneously managing multiple projects and deadlines in compressed timeframes
  • Professional experience with various technologies including electronic management systems such as Kuali Research
  • Professional experience with creation of marketing and publicity materials and standard operating procedures
  • Professional experience involving building collaborative relationships with stakeholders and providing exemplary customer service. Please submit a cover letter, resume, transcripts, and references. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience at an institution of higher education or experience working with external funding opportunities.
  • Certification in Sponsored Research Administrator
  • Training experience (Ability to train faculty and new staff)
  • Knowledge of federal, state and funding agencies policies, procedures, laws, regulations and codes applicable to the administration of grants and contracts.

Step Illinois Residency Requirement :
Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position.
