Job Description

Press Brake Operator Job Description The Press Brake Operator sets up and operates press brake equipment to bend metal components according to specifications and prepares parts for welding and further fabrication. This role requires accurate measurement, safe handling of heavy materials, and consistent production of high-quality sheet metal parts in a fabrication and weld shop environment. Responsibilities Operate press brake machinery to bend and form sheet metal parts according to blueprints and job specifications. Prepare metal components for welders by bending and forming materials to precise dimensions. Use a tape measure throughout the day to verify dimensions and ensure accuracy to within 1/16 of an inch. Lift and handle heavy metal materials safely while loading and unloading equipment and workstations. Interpret and follow blueprints and fabrication drawings to complete jobs correctly and efficiently. Operate fabrication equipment such as saws, drill presses, shears, and related tools as needed. Use forklifts or other material handling equipment to move metal stock and finished parts safely around the shop. Inspect finished parts for quality, accuracy, and conformance to specifications, making adjustments as needed. Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all shop safety procedures and guidelines. Collaborate with welders and other fabrication team members to coordinate workflow and meet production deadlines. Essential Skills Proficiency in operating a press brake in a metal fabrication or sheet metal environment. Ability to accurately use a tape measure and measure materials to within 1/16 of an inch. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings. Experience working with sheet metal and metal fabrication processes. Capability to lift and handle heavy materials safely throughout the workday. Experience operating basic fabrication equipment such as saws, drill presses, and shears. Basic forklift operation skills for moving materials and finished parts. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality parts. Ability to follow safety procedures and work effectively in a weld shop setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience in a weld shop or metal fabrication shop. Familiarity with press brake setup, adjustment, and basic troubleshooting. Comfort working with various types and thicknesses of sheet metal. Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn additional fabrication processes. Ability to work both independently and as part of a fabrication and welding team. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Garfield, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
