Position:
Principal Reports to: Chief Education Officer 197 Day position
ROLE AND PURPOSE
Direct and manage the instructional program and supervise operations and personnel at the campus level. Provide instructional leadership to insure high standards of instructional service. Direct the implementation of district policies, instructional programs, and the operation of all campus activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree in Education required, Master's degree in educational administration preferred Texas Mid-Management or other appropriate Texas certificate Certified PDAS appraiser, or ability to obtain certification in first year
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills Ability to postively manage a team of personnel
Experience:
Three years of experience as a successful classroom teacher required Experience as a campus administrator preferred but not required
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
INSTRUCTIONAL
MANAGEMENT
Monitors student achievement as indicated by measurable evaluation methods, including benchmarks, to meet district and campus goals. Monitors student attendance to achieve district and campus goals. [Uses measurable data to monitor.] Assists teachers in designing learning experiences for students. Encourages the development and recommendation of innovative instruction programs to the district. Facilitates the planning and application of emerging technologies in the classroom.
SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL MORALE
Fosters positive school/campus morale through various activities. Assesses and plans improvement of the campus environment Reinforces excellence. Promotes a positive, caring climate of learning. Uses effective communication skills. Develops campus organizational structure which ensures that the staff communicates (talks) with each other. Conducts regular conferences with campus staff, as appropriate. Promotes team building at both campus level. Provides leadership to promote positive school climate on campus. Communicates with Administration regularly regarding all aspects of campus concerns and needs. Follows chain of command in organizational chart when seeking resolution of challenges or problems. Shows prudence in matters of confidential nature and shares on need-to-know basis. Enforces all administrative procedures in non-ambiguous and appropriate method. Assists in development and recommendation of new policies as needed.
SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT
Collaborates in the development of a common vision of improvement. Articulates the common vision of the campus to parents, community, and staff. Ensures continuous renewal of curriculum, policies, procedures, and methods.
PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT
Delegates appropriately. Recognizes exemplary performance of teachers and staff. Encourages personal and professional growth and leadership among the staff. Complies with applicable personnel policies and rules. Recommends necessary personnel resources to meet objectives. Evaluates the job performance of all assigned personnel. Evaluates all supervised employees on campus in timely manner. Provides accurate information for personnel files for all campus employees, as appropriate. Assists in developing growth plans for campus staff, as appropriate.
MANAGEMENT OF ADMINISTRATIVE, FISCAL, AND FACILITIES FUNCTIONS.
Ensures that buildings and equipment are clean and free from parent/staff complaints. Conducts regular safety evaluations of buildings and equipment. Implements security devices and a security/safety plan.
STUDENT MANAGEMENT
Assists students develop a sense of self-worth. Develops and communicates guidelines for student conduct. Communicates and implements the Discipline Management Plan and Student Code of Conduct to students, parent and staff. Trains campus staff in Discipline Management Plan and Student Code of Conduct. Disciplines students for misconduct in an effective and fair manner. Ensures rules and Student Code of Conduct are uniformly observed and enforced. Encourages participation of students and parents. Supports collaboration in student management by working with faculty. Provides safe environment for student learning.
SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS
Fosters collaborative educational efforts among members of the district and total school community. Articulates the campus mission and needs to parents and the community. Seeks support for school programs. Includes representations of appropriate groups in planning/decision making. Informs parents of all school rules. Presents regular written communications regarding school events, initiatives, needs, progress, etc. Implements campus system for receiving suggestions, questions, complaints, etc.
PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
Conducts self in an ethical and profession manner. Disseminates ideas and information to other professionals. Seeks and uses evaluative information for improvement of performance.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff assigned to campus including assistant principal(s), teacher(s), counselor(s), librarian(s), instructional aides and clerical support staff.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands:
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to instruct; maintain emotional control under stress.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
