Essential Elements:
Print Definition:
To serve as the educational leader and chief executive of the school; responsible for direction of the instructional program, operation of the school plant, participation in staff and student activities; and exercise leadership in the community. As the administrator of the school, the principal shall be responsible for enforcement of the State Education Code, the rules and regulations of the California State Board of Education, district policies, and the administrative regulations of the Superintendent of Schools. The principal shall operate under the direction of the Superintendent and may be assigned other duties or responsibilities as required.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Establish, implement and evaluate goals of designated site programs. 2. Direct the development, implementation and evaluation of instructional strategies to maximize student achievement. 3. Direct the development and implementation of student expectations for instructional programs. 4. Plan, initiate, monitor and evaluate alternatives to improve educational programs for students, including those "at risk". 5. Monitor the dissemination of student progress reports to parents, guardians and students. 6. Assist in the selection and orientation of personnel. Supervise and evaluate personnel assigned to the site. 7. Develop, implement and evaluate school-level staff development programs that reflect the needs of staff and students. 8. Provide assistance and support to staff members. 9. Maintain a safe, secure and peaceful campus. 10. Develop, monitor and maintain a site budget. 11. Maintain and account for the physical assets of the school with the assistance of the Business Office. 12. Establish regular communications to inform and involve parents and staff members about District and school programs. 13. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work. 14. Implement District program and student assessment procedures. 15. Provide timely reports to parents and students about each student's progress. 16. Perform other related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge/AbilityMinimum Requirements:
- Knowledge of and ability to:
- Apply curriculum development, implementation and evaluation procedures and strategies.
- Apply effective supervision techniques.
- Implement team building and conflict resolution strategies.
- Apply laws, codes and regulations related to the principalship.
- Apply textbook selection policies and procedures.
- Apply management, budgeting and contract administration principles and practices.
- Knowledge of the social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of elementary school age students.
- Knowledge of public information principles and techniques including an awareness of community needs, interest and concerns.
- Ability to understand and implement complex oral and written directions given in English.
- Ability to compose clear, complete and concise correspondence and reports independently using correct grammar, syntax, punctuation and spelling. Experience
Minimum Requirement:
- Five years of successful, full-time experience as an elementary classroom teacher in a public or private school or equivalent status.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Three years of successful experience as a public school administrator.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree
- Valid California Teaching credential
- Valid California Administrative credential
- Master's degree desirable

- Mild/Moderate OR Multiple Subject Teaching Credential
- General Subjects OR Other (Valid California Teaching Credential) OR Specialist Instruction in Special Education
- Learning Handicapped Requirements / Qualifications Minimum Experience of Five (5) years as a successful, full-time teacher in public or private school or equivalent status.
- Mild/Moderate OR Multiple Subject Teaching Credential
