The Probation and Parole Officer is responsible for supervising and investigating criminal offenders through the provision of probation, parole, and pardon assigned to the district office. Minimum Qualifications Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement; OR Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply); OR Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR A bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license. This position requires the incumbent to handle and carry firearms. Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties:

As a Probation and Parole Officer, you will play a vital role in promoting public safety and supporting offender rehabilitation through supervision, guidance, and enforcement of court-ordered conditions. In this role, you will: Supervise felons and misdemeanants through counseling, crisis intervention, and referrals to community resources addressing social adjustment, substance abuse, vocational rehabilitation, and mental health needs. Enforce conditions of supervision and manage all aspects of the violation process under close supervision. Conduct criminal justice social background investigations and prepare recommendations for courts, parole boards, pardon boards, and other criminal justice decision-makers. Conduct arrests and transport violators while preparing reports and participating in probable cause and revocation hearings. Investigate and determine victim restitution amounts; establish payment schedules; and collect and disburse restitution, supervision fees, fines, court costs, and other criminal justice funds. Administer drug testing procedures by obtaining urine samples and evaluating test results. Ensure compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards by adhering to required timelines, procedures, and operational guidelines. Assist with jail operation audits for facilities housing Department of Public Safety and Corrections (DPSC) inmates and perform contract compliance audits for Community Rehabilitation Centers (CRCs). Conduct disciplinary hearings for adult inmates housed in Community Rehabilitation Centers (CRCs). Apply Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT) defensive tactics, including the use of impact weapons, and supervise discretionary community service work performed by parolees.

Appointment Type :

Probational or Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of the Louisiana State Government. Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted. An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted. This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.

This position may be filled as a Probation and Parole Officer 1, 2, or 3, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.

• Adult has a Special Entrance Rate of $1,872.

00 Bi-weekly. The Probation and Parole Officer 2-Adult has a Special Entrance Rate of $2,003.20 Bi-weekly. The Probation and Parole Officer 3-Adult has a Special Entrance Rate of $2,213.60 Bi-weekly.
