Job Objective:
Reporting to the VP of Product Development, the Product Development Engineer is responsible for the execution aspects of the Pacur product development process strategy. This entails engaging with the Quality, Product Development, Operations, and Commercial organizations to ensure Pacur's existing and new product development design process is defined and followed. This position does not offer relocation.
Essential Duties:
Product Development:
  • Coordinate Trial Plans and activities for new product development and product change management Interface cross functionally to develop and execute the development plans with Supply Chain, Operations, Quality, and Commercial Ensure timely execution of trials and testing
  • Develop and lead product design specification process; development and alignment with customers, and internal specifications management
  • Contribute polymers application and processing knowledge to ideation and development process with Product Development
  • Provide regular reporting to executive management on product development activities
Process Development:
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Engineering to develop control plans, inspection plans, new product final release, and process validation
  • Establish applicable statistical methods within the Quality Control acceptance activities such as process capability and sampling
Product Data Management:
  • Lead effort to generate relevant technical data for product marketing including performance comparison of materials, TDS data, competitive analysis
  • Accountable for creation and maintenance of technical data sheets (TDS) including data generation and validation for the TDSs
  • Collaborate with Quality team for appropriate input to regulatory information sheets (RIS) and other applicable product compliance activities
  • Lead Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), Green House Gas (GHG) and other sustainability data generation, management and validation exercises in coordination with Quality and Commercial teams
Other Essential Duties:
  • Engage with customers in trials of new materials, troubleshooting of current materials and provide general technical support for the Commercial team Work closely with Quality on key root cause and CAPA efforts in relation to technical solutions
  • Knowledge of procedures, work instructions and associated forms and ability to develop them. Subject-matter-expert (SME) for designated areas of the Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Other activities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Technical expertise in plastics manufacturing (extrusion, thermoforming, injection molding, etc.) Expertise in trial planning and execution Subject matter expert in various plastics materials testing methods / Lab experience testing High level of organizational skills, technical writing skills and project management skills Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal) Experience with a QMS based on ISO9001 or
ISO13485
(FDA QSR exposure is a plus) Strong collaborator able to interact within all levels within internal and external organizations Skilled in using Microsoft software tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project) Experience in medical device packaging is a plus
Education/Training Requirements:
BS degree in Engineering, Polymers, Chemistry, or related field, or the equivalent in relevant work experience 3+ years of experience in a plastics manufacturing/converting environment Formal problem-solving experience (Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt is a plus)
Physical Demands/Requirements:
The physical requirements are representative of the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. An employee in this position is required to regularly stand, sit and walk. In addition, this position requires considerable manual dexterity for use of computer keyboard and mouse. The employee will be required to walk through and work in the manufacturing plant and will therefore be exposed to moderate noise levels.
