Job Description
Job Title:
Production Associate (Soldering) / Production Technician Job Description This role focuses on the assembly, testing, calibration, and inspection of advanced sensor and electronic products used in automotive, aerospace, industrial automation, and manufacturing applications. You will work with precision components under a microscope, perform fine soldering and small parts assembly, and ensure every product meets strict quality and performance standards. The position operates on a first-shift schedule and offers a structured, hands-on environment where you can build and refine your technical skills in electronics manufacturing. Responsibilities Assemble advanced sensor and electronic products according to detailed work instructions, test procedures, and engineering drawings. Perform precision assembly operations, including microscope soldering, small parts assembly, mechanical fastening, and adhesive bonding using small hand tools. Conduct visual inspections, functional testing, and calibration of products to ensure they meet all specifications and quality standards. Operate and maintain basic production equipment used in the assembly and calibration of sensors and transducers. Use calibration tools such as multimeters, calipers, micrometers, and similar instruments to verify product performance and measurements. Document all work performed, including assembly steps, test results, and any nonconformances, using data entry tools and basic Microsoft Office applications. Identify and report discrepancies, defects, or quality issues to supervision and engineering for resolution. Follow all safety, quality, and process standards while consistently meeting productivity and throughput expectations. Review daily work assignments and production priorities at the start of each shift to organize and plan tasks effectively. Collaborate with teammates and engineering staff to troubleshoot issues, support continuous improvement, and ensure smooth production flow. Perform quality checks and basic quality control activities to support compliance with internal procedures and ISO 9001-regulated processes. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workstation in a controlled production environment, including proper handling of ESD-sensitive components. Support cross-training efforts by learning additional processes and tasks across different departments or lean cells as needed. Essential Skills High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education. Ability to confidently perform soldering on small electronic parts and fine-pitch components. Ability to work with precision components under a binocular microscope for extended periods. Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to product quality and accuracy. Ability to read and follow written instructions, engineering drawings, schematics, and standard operating procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Approximately 2 years of BOCES or vocational training in electronics, manufacturing, or a related technical field, even with limited professional experience, is welcomed. Experience with soldering fine-pitch electronic components and microscope soldering in a production or lab environment. Familiarity with oscilloscopes, shakers, welders, bead blasters, or similar production and test equipment. Previous experience in electronics, sensor manufacturing, or other regulated manufacturing environments. Basic knowledge of quality systems, inspection processes, and ISO 9001-regulated environments. Exposure to quality or inspection work, including performing quality checks or inspections on parts or assemblies. Experience with small parts assembly, schematic reading, and working in a production or quality control setting. Willingness to learn new processes through structured training programs and cross-training across departments. Comfort working in an ESD-controlled environment and following ESD handling procedures. A team-oriented mindset, openness to feedback, and receptiveness to cross-training and continuous improvement. Why Work Here? You will join a close-knit, team-oriented environment within a smaller, stable organization that values long-term career growth and hands-on development. The company offers full medical coverage and benefits, along with a consistent first-shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., where overtime is available but never mandatory. You will benefit from extensive hands-on training, including onboarding in a dedicated training cell, and work in a clean, well-maintained facility with regularly updated equipment and tools. A backlog of orders ensures ongoing custom project work, providing variety and continuous learning. The organization fosters a culture of appreciation with peer-nominated awards and employee events, and supports everyday comfort with amenities such as vending machines, a microwave, a refrigerator, and personal lockers for secure storage. Work Environment This role is based in a light industrial, climate-controlled production facility in the Amherst, NY area, focused on the development and manufacturing of advanced piezoelectric sensors and measurement systems. Technicians work independently within assigned assembly lean cells and report to an Assembly Supervisor, while collaborating across multiple departments on an ISO 9001-regulated production floor. The environment is designed for precision electronics assembly and is ESD-controlled, with technicians wearing lab coats along with wrist and boot grounders to mitigate static discharge. Although not a clean room, the workspace is consistently maintained to be clean, organized, and orderly. The standard schedule is a single first shift, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with overtime offered on a voluntary basis.
