Job Description
Job Overview The Production Manager is responsible for leading and directing manufacturing operations in a high-volume Tier 1 automotive supplier environment supporting Toyota customer expectations, operational excellence initiatives, environmental stewardship, and business objectives. This role ensures achievement of organizational goals relating to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Morale, and Environment (SQDCME) through implementation of Toyota Production System (TPS) principles, Lean Manufacturing practices, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System requirements, and continuous improvement methodologies. The Production Manager provides leadership to production teams while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, environmental responsibility, operational discipline, and continuous improvement. Duties PLAN (Operational Planning & Strategic Leadership) The Production Manager shall: Production & Operational Planning Develop and manage production strategies aligned with customer demand, Toyota Tier 1 supplier expectations, and business objectives. Establish production goals, manpower requirements, overtime planning, and operational resource allocation. Support achievement of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Morale, and Environmental (SQDCME) targets. Analyze operational trends, production metrics, labor efficiency, scrap performance, downtime, and throughput performance. Lean Manufacturing & Toyota Production System Planning Plan and support implementation of: Toyota Production System (TPS) Lean Manufacturing initiatives Standardized Work Kaizen activities 5S workplace organization Waste elimination strategies PDCA problem-solving methodology Root Cause Analysis Value Stream Improvement activities Environmental & ISO 14001 Planning Support implementation and maintenance of the

Environmental Management System (EMS) . Establish environmental objectives and operational controls supporting: Waste minimization Energy conservation Pollution prevention Environmental risk reduction Compliance obligations Participate in environmental planning activities and sustainability initiatives. Workforce & Leadership Planning Develop staffing plans, succession strategies, leadership development plans, and workforce capability initiatives. Collaborate with Human Resources regarding recruitment, training, employee relations, performance management, and workforce planning. DO (Execution & Leadership of Manufacturing Operations) The Production Manager shall: Production Execution Lead day-to-day production operations across assigned manufacturing areas, shifts, or departments. Ensure safe, efficient, and compliant execution of manufacturing activities. Drive production schedule attainment, labor utilization, equipment effectiveness, and operational performance. Maintain production readiness, standardized work adherence, and manufacturing discipline. Leadership & Employee Development Lead, coach, mentor, and develop Production Assistant Managers, Supervisors, Team Leaders, Group Leaders, and production employees. Conduct performance evaluations, coaching discussions, accountability meetings, and development activities. Foster teamwork, employee engagement, servant leadership, and continuous improvement culture. Toyota Tier 1 Supplier Standards Execution Maintain compliance with Toyota customer operational expectations and Tier 1 supplier performance standards.Conduct floor management activities including:
Gemba walks Daily production reviews KPI performance reviews Visual management activities Escalation and countermeasure implementation Environmental & Safety Execution Promote and maintain compliance with: OSHA regulations Indiana workplace safety requirements Company EHS programs Customer environmental requirementsISO 14001 EMS
operational controls Support environmental practices related to: Waste handling Chemical management Resource conservation Environmental incident prevention Lead safety observations, corrective actions, and risk reduction activities. CHECK (Performance Monitoring, Compliance & Evaluation) The Production Manager shall: Operational Performance Monitoring Monitor and evaluate operational KPIs including: Safety metrics Production efficiency Schedule attainment Labor productivity Scrap and defect performance Downtime trends Environmental performance indicators Environmental & ISO 14001 Compliance Monitoring Support monitoring and verification ofISO 14001
Environmental Management System effectiveness .Participate in:
Environmental audits Compliance evaluations Corrective action reviews Environmental objective tracking Monitor environmental operational controls and compliance activities. Continuous Improvement & Problem Analysis Analyze operational deviations, production losses, environmental concerns, and process inefficiencies.Utilize:
PDCA methodology A3 Problem Solving Root Cause Analysis Corrective Action processes Review operational data and implement data-driven decision making. Leadership & Workforce Effectiveness Monitoring Monitor employee performance, training effectiveness, workforce engagement, attendance, and leadership effectiveness. Evaluate staffing efficiency and operational capability needs. ACT (Continuous Improvement & Corrective Action) The Production Manager shall: Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence Lead implementation of corrective actions and operational improvements. Drive sustainable improvements in safety, production efficiency, environmental performance, cost reduction, and workforce effectiveness. Champion continuous improvement culture through Toyota-aligned operational excellence practices. Corrective & Preventive Actions Develop and implement countermeasures for operational, safety, environmental, staffing, and production concerns. Support closure of findings related to: Internal audits Environmental audits Safety observations Customer concerns Production performance gaps Environmental Improvement Promote environmental stewardship initiatives supportingISO 14001 EMS
objectives.Identify opportunities for:
Waste reduction Energy efficiency Pollution prevention Sustainable operational improvements Organizational Development Recommend operational improvements, staffing enhancements, leadership development opportunities, and strategic initiatives supporting business growth. Requirements 2-4 years experience in manufacturing or production management with a strong understanding of production processes 1-3 year experience with TPS (Toyota Production Systems) Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage diverse teams Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to resolving operational challenges Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation and reporting Knowledge of safety regulations, quality standards, and equipment maintenance practices Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment while maintaining focus on goals Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field is preferred but not mandatory Knowledge, Skills & Competencies Required knowledge of: Toyota Production System (TPS) Lean Manufacturing Principles PDCA Methodology Kaizen / Continuous Improvement Standardized Work OSHA Compliance Manufacturing KPI Management Workforce Leadership & Labor Management Root Cause Analysis & Problem Solving ERP/MRP Manufacturing Systems Microsoft Office SuiteISO 14001
Environmental Management Systems (EMS) Leadership competencies include: Strategic Planning Servant Leadership Decision Making Conflict Resolution Coaching & Development Change Management Communication Skills Accountability & Ownership Working Conditions / Physical Requirements Manufacturing production environment exposure including machinery, moving equipment, noise, heat, and industrial conditions. Frequent production floor presence required. Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, and move throughout facility operations. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Flexibility to support multiple shifts, weekends, overtime, and customer operational requirements. Additional Requirements Maintain confidentiality regarding company operations, proprietary information, customer requirements, and personnel matters. Must be authorized to work in the United States.
