The Professional Engineer plays a pivotal role in shaping high-quality truss design by leading the design, review, and sealing of structural components. This individual drives innovation by improving productivity, elevating product quality, strengthening design standards, and reducing costs through continuous process and design enhancements. Working under the guidance of the National Engineering Manager, this role partners closely with regional design teams to deliver excellence and consistency across the organization.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Functions as a Professional Engineer producing sealed component designs and repairs, and acts as an internal consultant in the areas of truss component layouts, design and repairs. Researches and develops new products or design methods to enhance efficiencies, product quality and productivity relating to components. Works with production to ensure proper Quality Control process and procedures are maintained for the production of components Identifies and implements changes to the design process to enhance overall appearance and performance of finish products or design procedures Assist in the development of operating procedures which maximize output, product quality, and minimize waste Assist in the training of component designers Troubleshoots field installation problems and determines best fit repair method to ensure code compliant modification while controlling expenses Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of all IBC/IRC codes, TPI design methodology and industry standards related to the building industry Implements and reinforces national standards across residential and multifamily teams to ensure best practices are followed Provide coaching, mentorship, training, and leadership to regional team members Communicates regularly with all design department employees to ensure all team members are engaged and working toward company objectives Cultivates and promotes a high performance UFP culture Ensures training efforts are provided to maximize team member potential Attend management meetings and prepare reports as requiredKNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor degree in engineering related discipline or equivalent Current Professional Engineer licensure Minimum 3 years of design/engineering experience Experience and working knowledge of national design standards and expectations required Working knowledge and proficiency in the use of computer and business related software, including Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, and Outlook)SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Proficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing, and speaking Ability to successfully interact with all organizational levels and the public Ability to organize and prioritize work, and exercise effective time management Ability to communicate effectively with others including designers, peers, and management Ability to work independently toward defined goals Ability to manage several activities/projects at once, to meet deadlines, to prepare plans, goals, and budgets Ability to work hours directed by management Ability to pass a drug testCONDUCT:
