Job Description

The Department of Health Sciences Skills Lab Coordinator/Professor performs essential coordination activities to assure the efficient operation of the clinical sites/facilities for all programs. Masters degree in Nursing from a nationally or regionally accredited university is required.
  • Must hold a current license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas. A minimum of 3 years of recent nursing experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of recent Instructional Simulation Skills Lab experience.
Be knowledgeable of the Rules and Regulations relating to the Education, Licensure and Practice of Professional Nurses and Vocational Nurses as per the Texas Board of Nursing ( TBON ). Be knowledgeable of accreditation standards for all Department of Health Sciences ( DHS ) Program accrediting bodies Be knowledgeable of CTC and DHS polices and utilize those in job performance. Liaison with the Program Directors, Assistant Chair, and Chair regarding clinical agency issues and clinical lab skills training needs in each program. Exhibit professionalism in all areas and interactions with others (students, staff, professors, and public) Model excellent communication, problem solving and critical thinking skills and with others. Maintain competency in nursing and nursing education. Meets and exceeds required continuing education requirements for re-licensure and for job specific needs. Demonstrate flexibility in responding to job requirements. Able to provide nursing education using traditional or alternate delivery methods. Currently licensed or hold privileges to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
  • Flexibility in professionally working with students, professors, support staff, and administrators
  • Competency in proper use of simulation lab/computer lab equipment as outlined in CTC and DHS faculty policies and procedures.
  • Gather and organize clinical simulation lab, and skills lab scheduling requests from the nursing programs, Simulation Lab Operations Manager and the professors.
  • Coordinate with the Simulation Lab Operations Manager and DHS Program Directors as needed.
  • Problem-solving abilities to work with the Program Directors/semester/lead coordinators related to simulation, skills, or clinical lab concerns.
  • Assist in the evaluation of the student performance to include remediation evaluation.
  • Gather evaluative data from professors, students and Simulation Lab Operations Manager; trend and aggregate it to make needed suggestions for change.
  • Attend all support staff meetings and team/program meetings as required.
  • Actively participates in campus or program specific accrediting agency activities.
  • Assumes clinical responsibilities on an "as needed" basis.
  • Carries a teaching load defined by the needs of the programs.
