Job Description

GENERAL FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Program Director, the Camp Oakes program leader will be responsible for the supervision and safety of the children and the volunteer counselors attending Camp Oakes. The Camp Oakes director will also be responsible for attending planning meetings, training, and participating in programming.
Unit Directors:
Support of the assigned unit Cabin leaders including but not limited to Unit and Cabin Acts. Implementation of activities and special events including, but not limited to: Campfire, All Camp Games, Meal Events, Assistance in Unit and Cabin Acts
QUALIFICATIONS
The person selected for this position must be a sensitive individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults. They need to be prepared to supervise children (7-17 years of age) and adult in the resident camp setting.
Requirements of this position are:
2-3 years of Camp or YMCA leadership experience Fingerprint Clearance
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for planning, or assisting the Program Director in planning, supervising, and implementing programs and activities for the campers and volunteer Cabin Leaders Responsible for assisting in the supervision of the campers and volunteer Cabin Leaders Must know where the cabin groups are located during each activity period Responsible for the safety of the campers and volunteer cabin leaders Responsible for reporting to the Branch Camp Program Directors the need for supplies, maintenance problems, or equipment problems. Responsible to actively participate with the children and staff in activities. Responsible to report to Program Director any behavioral concerns and incidents with children and or cabin leaders. Responsible to attend all mandatory staff meetings. Responsible to provide a clean and safe environment for children and staff. Responsible to report any accidents or safety concerns to Program Director, and to be aware of all safety policies and procedures of the YMCA of Greater Long Beach. Responsible for any duties required by camp Program Director as needed for Camp Oakes operation. Responsible to exhibit courteous and helpful behavior to children, cabin leaders, parents/guardians. To exhibit behavior of a role model for youth. Responsible to maintain a neat and clean personal appearance. Must dress appropriately to participate in all activities. Responsible to follow the policies and procedures set forth by the YMCA of Greater Long Beach, and those set forth by YMCA Camp Oakes.

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, night vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

$750.00 - $775.00 per week
