Project Estimator Job Description The Project Estimator oversees the full lifecycle of customer projects, from initial communication and quoting through to engineering and production. This role combines project estimation, project management, and technical coordination, ensuring that work orders and bills of materials are accurate and that projects move smoothly through internal processes. In a smaller company environment, the Project Estimator also contributes in a variety of additional areas as needed, adapting to changing priorities on a daily basis. Responsibilities Communicate proactively with customers to understand project requirements, clarify specifications, and provide timely updates. Prepare accurate project quotations based on customer needs, technical drawings, and sheet metal requirements. Create detailed work orders that clearly define scope, materials, and production steps for internal teams. Develop and maintain comprehensive bills of materials (BOM) to support efficient purchasing, planning, and production. Manage projects as they progress through engineering and production, monitoring timelines, costs, and quality. Coordinate with engineering and production teams to resolve issues, adjust schedules, and ensure project deliverables meet expectations. Use an ERP system to enter, track, and update project data, work orders, and material requirements. Identify and address potential project risks or delays, communicating impacts and solutions to stakeholders. Support continuous improvement by suggesting enhancements to estimating, BOM creation, and project management processes. Take on additional responsibilities as needed in a small-company setting, adapting to changing priorities and helping where required. Essential Skills At least 5 years of experience managing projects, preferably in a manufacturing or production environment. At least 5 years of experience working with sheet metal projects or sheet metal manufacturing processes. Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating cross-functional activities. Proven experience with project estimation and quoting for customer projects. Ability to create and manage accurate bills of materials (BOM) for production. Hands-on experience using an ERP system to manage project and production data. Clear and professional communication skills for interacting with customers and internal teams. Strong attention to detail and accuracy when preparing quotes, work orders, and BOMs. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a smaller company or similar environment where team members regularly take on multiple roles. Familiarity with engineering and production workflows related to sheet metal fabrication. Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and project requirements. Problem-solving skills to address issues that arise during engineering and production. Interest in contributing to process improvements in estimating, project management, and production coordination. Work Environment This role operates in a smaller, dynamic company environment where priorities can change daily and team members often wear multiple hats. The Project Estimator works closely with engineering and production teams and uses tools such as ERP systems and BOM management software to support project execution. The position involves a mix of office-based work for estimating, documentation, and communication, along with regular interaction with production and engineering to monitor project progress and resolve issues. The work setting emphasizes collaboration, flexibility, and a hands-on approach to ensuring projects move smoothly from quote through to completion. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of New Berlin, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $85000.00/yr. 3 weeks of vacation and for the remainder of 2026 it will be 11 days of PTO Workplace Type This is a fully onsite position in New Berlin,WI.
