Position Overview This position is accountable for corridor, design, and combined location studies for highway improvement projects on the annual and multi-year construction program. Essential Functions Prepares the engineering sections of corridor, design and combined location studies in accurate and timely manner. Prepares alternate designs for location studies. Reviews location studies prepared by consultants and other agencies for completeness according to policy and procedures. Responsible for complying with the various department policies to prepare project studies for approval. Assists with informational meetings and public involvement to describe projects. Trains, motivates, and evaluates indirect subordinate personnel. Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Completion of a bachelor of science degree in engineering from an ABET accredited college OR acurrent Illinois Engineer Intern Certificate OR a current Professional Engineer license in the state of Illinois OR a current Structural Engineer License in the state of Illinois. Those applying with only a degree must have a minimum of 2.0 (out of 4.0) cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA). If cumulative GPA is between 2.0 and 2.5 (out of 4.0), applicants must also possess a current Illinois Engineer Intern Certificate OR a current Professional Engineer license in the state of Illinois OR a current Structural Engineer License in the state of Illinois. Thirty-seven months of experience in civil engineering. Preferred Qualifications Strong oral and written communication skills. Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD). Working experience in studies and plans, and construction. Knowledge of the policies and procedures that govern the design of highway projects; and the ability to analyze and solve highway engineering problems. Conditions of Employment Valid driver's license. Districtwide travel. Successful completion of a background screening. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.
