Agency Description:

Your Team:
The Office of Development (OOD) leads the agency's effort to create and preserve affordable housing in collaboration with other HPD offices as well as other city, state and federal agencies. The OOD is comprised of eight divisions that administer a range of programs. These divisions include New Construction Finance, Special Needs Housing, Housing Incentives, Building and Land Development Services, Homeownership Opportunities and Preservation, Preservation Finance, Portfolio Management and Conversions, and Compliance and Enforcement. The Division of Building and Land Development Services (BLDS) provides architectural, engineering, cost valuation, environmental planning, and construction support services to the various divisions within HPD's Office of Development. BLDS is the largest division within the Office of Development with over 100 staff composed of seven units which include: the Bureau of New Construction Design Review Services, the Bureau of Preservation Design Review Services, the Bureau of Engineering, the Bureau of Construction Services, the Environmental Planning Unit, the Policy Unit, and the Program Management Unit.
Your Impact:
As a Projects Coordinator, you will assist the Executive Office in implementing priority projects and initiatives that support the goals of the division and agency. You will assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of capital projects that may require collaboration with various city agencies and external partners. In addition, you will maintain and prepare reports and statistical analyses related to projects and initiatives for Executive office review.
  • Serve as a point of contact for priority capital projects and initiatives, coordinating with internal /external partners and community stakeholders.
  • Under the supervision of senior staff, engage in the planning and implementation of priority complex projects.
  • Provide design and construction-related technical assistance to consultants working on affordable housing projects to ensure tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Review project documents to identify critical issues that need to be resolved in order to meet project milestones and deadlines.
  • Collaborate with development teams, including architects, engineers, and contractors, to identify problems that arise during pre-development and/or construction, and work collectively on a resolution to meet compliance with project requirements.
  • Assist in providing design consultations and guidance to external development teams during the schematic design phase for projects that may have complex site and/or design issues.
  • Coordinate with The Bureaus of Design Review Services (preservation and new construction), the Bureau of Engineering and the Bureau of Construction Services to assure HPD-assisted projects are in compliance with contracts, drawings, specifications, codes, resolutions, statutes, rules or regulations.
  • Identify challenges or barriers to project implementation and proactively propose solutions or improvements.
  • Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, and events related to project initiatives, including preparing agendas, compiling background materials, and tracking follow-up actions.
  • Develop clear and concise briefing materials, reports, and presentations that summarize project statuses, data insights, and outcomes to inform executive level decision-making.
  • Participate in meetings, as necessary and/or perform other related tasks as assigned.
The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor, or Graduate Degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Public Administration, Urban Planning, Urban Studies and/or related field. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, self-motivated, possess strong data management skills, and demonstrate the ability to work independently under the guidance of the Executive Office. Preferred skills 1. Highly organized, demonstrate the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, and perform tasks with minimal supervision. 2. Excellent computer and data analytics skills and proficient in Microsoft Suite. 3. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, negotiate with diverse technical specialists, apply independent judgment in technical matters, take initiative, and work effectively with others. 4. Excellent writing, interpersonal, organizational, communication, leadership, and negotiation skills. 5. A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York may be required for certain assignments. If required, this license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment. 6. Candidate may be subject to a background investigation conducted by the New York City Department of Investigation Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or 2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or 3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
