Full-time Job Summary:
The Prototype/Fixture Builder is responsible for building, assembling, and modifying custom shipping racks, jigs, and fixtures used for transporting and manufacturing components. This role involves interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and verbal instructions to fabricate prototypes and production-ready models that meet quality, safety, and design specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Build, assemble, and modify prototype and production shipping racks , fixtures, and jigs according to engineering drawings or design concepts. Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate fabrication. Perform welding, cutting, drilling, and grinding on steel materials as required. Collaborate with engineering, design, and production teams to refine prototypes and implement design improvements. Ensure all builds meet dimensional accuracy, strength, and quality standards . Operate hand tools, power tools, forklifts, and fabrication equipment safely and efficiently. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company safety policies. Assist with the testing and validation of new rack and fixture designs. Document build processes and communicate suggestions for process or design enhancements .
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certificate preferred. Minimum 2-5 years of fabrication, welding, or prototype-building experience . Strong ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols . Proficient in MIG welding, metal cutting, and basic machining . Excellent mechanical aptitude, attention to detail , and problem-solving skills . Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly. Prolonged standing, bending, and manual material handling. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Work Environment:
Fabrication shop or prototype area; exposure to noise, dust, and welding fumes. May occasionally assist in production or testing areas as needed.
