Job Description

Overview NVS Strategic Solutions is hiring four (4) Psychiatric Registered Nurses for 2nd Shift (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM) positions at Clarks Summit State Hospital, a Pennsylvania state mental health facility operated by the Department of Human Services' Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS). This is a meaningful clinical opportunity for psychiatric RNs who want to provide skilled behavioral health nursing care in a structured, multidisciplinary state hospital environment. Psychiatric RNs at Clarks Summit play a central role on the treatment team — conducting behavioral health assessments, administering psychiatric medications, leading milieu therapy interventions, managing crisis situations, and coordinating care with psychiatrists, social workers, and direct care staff. The afternoon/evening shift fits well for RNs balancing morning commitments, continuing education, or family schedules. Duties Conduct comprehensive psychiatric nursing assessments on admission, on shift, and as patient status changes Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans aligned with the patient's treatment plan Monitor mental status, suicide/self-harm risk, aggression risk, and behavioral changes throughout the shift Administer psychiatric medications (oral, IM, depot injections) per physician orders and document accurately Recognize and respond to medication side effects, EPS, akathisia, and other clinical concerns Coordinate medical care for patients with comorbid medical conditions (diabetes, cardiac, GI, infectious disease) De-escalate patients in acute behavioral crises using verbal interventions and approved trauma-informed techniques Participate in physical interventions and restraint/seclusion procedures when clinically indicated, per facility policy Lead milieu therapy interventions and group activities that support patient recovery and stability Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients and staff at all times Required Qualifications Active, unencumbered Pennsylvania Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN, BSN, or higher) Psychiatric nursing experience required — minimum 1 year of RN experience in an inpatient psychiatric, behavioral health, or state hospital setting Current
BLS / CPR
certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross Crisis intervention training — CPI, Handle With Care, ProACT, or equivalent (training may be provided at facility orientation) Clean PA Criminal History Background Check (PATCH) and PA Child Abuse History Clearance FBI Fingerprint-Based Background Check (required for PA state-operated facility employment) Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and physical assessment Reliable transportation to Clarks Summit (Lackawanna County, ~15 minutes from Scranton) Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
