Job Description

General The Public Information Officer (PIO) supports the City's communication, marketing, and community engagement efforts by creating content and managing digital channels. The role ensures information is accurate, consistent, and on brand while working with departments to keep residents and stakeholders informed. This position also supports and contributes to broader community engagement and economic development initiatives. Supervision Received The Public Information Officer (PIO) is responsible to and held accountable by the Marketing & Development Director. Supervision Exercised Not applicable. Examples of Essential Duties The following examples are meant to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive: Social Media Management Plan and execute a monthly content calendar highlighting city services, community stories, and department updates Capture original photography, short-form video, and written content Monitor comments and messages and route inquiries to the appropriate departments Review platform performance and apply insights to improve future content Support promotion of city events through coordinated content and campaign execution Provide on-site digital documentation support at City events (i.e. live posting, photography, logistics coordination, etc.) Website & Digital Presence Maintain and update city website content to ensure accuracy across all departments Promote awareness and understanding of City services, policies, projects, and issues Audit website copy for clarity, accessibility, and SEO best practices Monitor and update third-party listings (e.g., Google Business Profiles) for accuracy Graphic Design Serve as the primary in-house design resource for the City Create marketing materials, digital assets, presentations, and social graphics Develop templates for departments to ensure consistent visual standards Translate complex initiatives into clear visual formats (infographics, summaries, scorecards) Internal Department Support Coordinate with departments to gather updates, announcements, and content needs Assist in preparing internal and external communication materials Maintain a centralized content pipeline to support ongoing communication efforts Scorecard Reporting & Coordination Collect performance data from departments on a set schedule Manage timelines and follow-ups to ensure timely completion Format and organize data into clear, visually engaging reports for leadership and public use Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Technical Skills Working proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite or strong capability in Canva or similar tools Experience with CMS platforms (WordPress, CivicPlus, or similar) for website updates Experience managing social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn Basic photography and video capture/editing skills for digital content Ability to turn data and updates into clear, easy-to-understand visuals Core Competencies Strong visual judgment in layout, typography, and presentation Ability to manage multiple deadlines and follow up with departments to gather needed information Comfortable shifting between office work and on-site digital documentation support Strong writing and proofreading skills for social, web, and general communications Self-starter with the ability to work independently and follow through on tasks Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Graphic Design, Communications, or a related field or 2 to 4 years of professional experience in marketing, communications, digital content creation, or graphic design or Any combination of education, training, and/or experience which would qualify for the position including a portfolio demonstrating experience in graphic design, social media content, and professional layout Preferred Qualifications 3+ years of experience in municipal communications or public-sector marketing Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and CMS platforms (e.g., CivicPlus, WordPress) Portfolio showcasing design, photography, video, and digital content work
