Job Description

The City of La Vernia is seeking a dependable team member to join our Public Works team. Position Summary This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the City's water distribution and wastewater collection systems to ensure safe, reliable service to residents and businesses. Duties include performing regular and recurring maintenance and repair of municipal rights-of-way, including streets and storm water drainage channels, while operating equipment, tools, and vehicles necessary to complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operate and maintain the City's water distribution system Operate and maintain the City's wastewater collection system Repair water main breaks, sewer lines, and service lines Install, repair, and replace meters, valves, hydrants, and manholes Perform routine system inspections and preventative maintenance Monitor system pressures, lift stations, and storage levels Assist with water quality sampling and regulatory compliance Maintain accurate records and reports as required by TCEQ Respond to after-hours call-outs and emergency situations Operate equipment such as backhoe/Track-hoe, dump trailer, hydro excavator, skid-steer, and service truck. Know how to work power tools Performs daily inspections of water wells and monitors equipment to ensure proper operating status and safety; detects malfunctions and makes necessary repairs, adjustments and/or parts replacements to restore operations Must be able to work the allocated hours of the position and be willing to report for duty on short notice at anyhour of the day or night Performs general maintenance duties, including but not limited to repairing fences, mowing city owned property and trimming weeds, painting equipment, repairing/building structures, installing concrete, cleans, maintains, repairs and/or rebuilds plant equipment as necessary with minimal downtime, injectors, regulators, relief valves, pumps, blowers, etc. Flushing dead end mains and documenting locations and approximate gallons flushed Assist with other Public Works duties as assigned
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a background check, reference verification, and pre-employment drug screening as required by the City of La Vernia Personnel Policy. Conviction of any Class B misdemeanor or higher offense will disqualify an applicant from consideration unless specifically approved by the City Administrator. Employees required to operate City vehicles must maintain a satisfactory driving record at all times.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED Valid Texas Driver s License Strongly preferred Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class D Water License (minimum) Strongly preferred Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class I Wastewater License preferred or ability to obtain Ability to obtain higher-level license within specified timeframe Preferred Qualifications Experience in municipal water and wastewater operations Knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection systems Equipment operation experience SCADA knowledge Physical Requirements Frequent lifting up to 75 lbs Working outdoors in various weather conditions Climbing, bending, kneeling, and confined space entry
