Job Description

Overview Join our dynamic Public Works team as a Maintenance Worker, where you will play a vital role in maintaining the safety, functionality, and appearance of public infrastructure. This energetic position offers the opportunity to work outdoors, operate heavy machinery, and contribute directly to community well-being. You will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks, repairs, and operational duties that keep city facilities, roads, and utilities in top condition. This can be a great position for a recent graduate, we will train and help you learn skills needed.
Key Responsibilities Infrastructure Repair:
Fix potholes, repair asphalt, maintain sewer lines, and assist with water main breaks and hydrant repairs.
Grounds Maintenance:
Mow, trim hedges, edge lawns, plant trees, and clear debris from public property.
Seasonal Operations:
Plow snow, apply salt/sand to roads, and pick up leaves or branches.
Equipment Operation:
Operate trucks, backhoes, loaders, tractors, and various hand/power tools.
Facility Maintenance:
Perform minor repairs on municipal buildings and public facilities.
Safety Compliance:
Follow strict safety protocols, including traffic control, wearing PPE, and reporting hazardous conditions.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Equipment Knowledge:
Proficiency in using, maintaining, and repairing tools and heavy machinery.
Physical Stamina:
Ability to lift over 75 pounds, work in confined spaces, and stand/walk on uneven surfaces for long periods.
Skills:
Ability to follow oral/written instructions and maintain basic records. Typical Work Environment Work is performed outdoors in varying, often harsh, weather conditions. Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and traffic. Availability for on-call shifts, weekends, or emergency response (snow/broken water pipes) is common. Certification advancement schedule for Water System DS I, II and III as well as Wastewater System D, C, B, and A. Increased starting wages for those already certified. Pay:
$16.00 - $16.50 per hour
