Job Description
Located on the shores of Lake Michigan in both Milwaukee and Ozaukee County, Bayside is a primarily residential community of 4,400 residents, and providing service up to 65,000 residents. Your role with us will be to serve as an integral component in providing solution based, innovative, and superior service to our constituencies, and to preserve and enhance resident quality of life through reliable, cost-effective infrastructure and service delivery. Specifically, you will maintain and enhance Village infrastructure as well as provide effective delivery of collection, maintenance, utility and other public works related services.
This description provides an overview of what will be expected of you but is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required. Maintain Village-owned streets, sanitary sewer systems/manholes, stormwater systems and drainage ways, all facilities, equipment, and public areas. Perform recurring maintenance and emergency Village services, including but not limited to collection of rubbish, yard waste, loose leaves, and recyclables, snowplowing/salting, sewer and/or lift station maintenance, and park maintenance. Advise the Operations Superintendent of developments pertaining to administration and operation of the department. Make recommendations for improving the quality and efficiency of the services performed by the department. Exercise reasonable care and maintain proper control of vehicles and equipment, responsible for its proper operation, and promptly identify and report the need for maintenance or repair. Comply with safety policies, programs and criteria, and utilize personal protective equipment in accordance to policies of the Village. Operate a variety of construction and maintenance equipment, vehicles, power tools and equipment in the general maintenance of Village streets, infrastructure, parks, and other public grounds and facilities. Inspect and repair equipment as necessary including performing minor equipment and vehicle maintenance inspections such as greasing fittings, checking oil, transmission fluid, hydraulic fluid, and daily pre trips. Prune trees and shrubs, chip branches, and pick up leaves in the Village right of way. Plant, water and maintain landscaped areas consisting of bushes, trees, flowers, shrubs, and lawns. Install street and traffic signs, and paint traffic control markings on road and parking lot surfaces. Perform winter road/sidewalk maintenance by plowing of snow from traveled ways and apply deicing materials to compacted snow and ice areas, including manual shoveling of snow. Perform other related work as assigned by the Operations Superintendent. Non-essential duties Follows up to complete any assigned work. Maintains high ethical standards in the workplace. Reports all irregular issues and problems to supervisor. Maintains good communication with all employees and outside contacts. Complies and maintains village policies and procedures as well as the Village's Strategic Values. Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working area. Knowledge of applicable safety requirements; construction maintenance, repair, and operation of light and heavy equipment, including vehicles; repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings and/or electrical systems; motor vehicle operations, traffic rules and regulations. Skilled in talking to others to convey information effectively; using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems; completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail; repair, maintenance, and testing of technical equipment. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with members of the public; work collaboratively and building strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, constituents and volunteers; work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision; come up with unusual or clever ideas about a given topic or situation, or to develop creative ways to solve a problem; recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems; train others; and maintain and care for hand and power tools.

Credentials Required:
High School Diploma, Driver's License, Commercial Driver's License (CDL), minimum A.B.C.D.Desired:
Two years of progressively responsible experience in a related field. Associates Degree.Operating Details:
While working, you will or may encounter the following: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Very heavy work. Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires visual acuity to operate vehicles, heavy equipment, and machines; make general observations of facilities or structures and performs mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature. Work will encounter environmental conditions, such as extreme temperature, weather, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions. Hours of Work Standard hours of work are generally 9 hours a day (40 hours a week) and are usually worked between 7 am and 4 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 4 hours on Friday between 7 am and 11 am. Attendance to emergencies for overtime when the need arises after standard scheduled hours of work is expected with the position.
