  • Full-time We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join our automotive manufacturing team.
This role is critical to maintaining and advancing our quality management systems in a high-volume metal stamping environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automotive Tier I/II supplier quality, IATF 16949 compliance, and stamped metal component inspection. You will work cross-functionally with engineering, production, and customers to ensure our stamped parts meet the highest quality standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Quality Management System Maintain and improve the Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with IATF 16949 and
ISO 9001
2015 standards. Own the document control process, ensuring all quality documentation is current, accurate, and accessible. Conduct internal audits per
IATF 16949
requirements; issue findings reports and track corrective actions to verified closure. Ensure adherence to Customer Specific Requirements (CSRs) across all stamping programs. Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) & PPAP Serve as quality representative on cross-functional teams for APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, and SPC activities. Prepare and submit complete PPAP documentation packages for stamped metal components per customer-required submission levels. Develop and maintain control plans, inspection plans, and process flow diagrams for stamping operations. Support die tryout and first article inspection (FAI) for new stamping tools and programs. Corrective & Preventive Action Lead 8D root cause analysis investigations in response to customer complaints and internal non-conformances. Manage the Corrective Action and Preventive Action (CAPA) process from initiation through effectiveness verification. Analyze failure data and warranty returns to identify recurring quality issues in stamped components. Coordinate with production and tooling teams to implement permanent corrective actions on stamping dies and processes. Supplier & Customer Quality Manage supplier quality corrective actions; conduct supplier audits and approve or reject incoming stamped components. Interface directly with OEM and Tier I automotive customers on quality issues, PPAP approvals, and containment activities. Coordinate customer-specific PPAP submissions and dimensional reports in required customer portal formats. Issue and track Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) through closure. Inspection & Measurement Perform and oversee dimensional inspection of stamped parts using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, CMM, and vision systems. Interpret complex GD&T drawings and customer specifications to establish inspection criteria. Conduct and review Measurement System Analyses (MSA/Gage R&R) for production gauges and inspection fixtures. Support receiving and outgoing quality functions including first article and in-process inspection.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 3-7
years of quality engineering experience in an automotive Tier I or Tier II metal stamping environment. In-depth knowledge of IATF 16949 and
ISO 9001
2015 quality management standards. Hands-on experience with APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, and SPC. Proficiency in GD&T interpretation per
ASME Y14.5
standards. Strong understanding of metal stamping processes including progressive die, transfer die, and fine blanking operations. Experience with 8D problem-solving and root cause analysis methodologies.
Proficiency with dimensional measurement tools:
CMM, micrometers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators. Familiarity with customer portals such as GM Supplier Quality (GMSQM), Ford's WERS/GPIRS, or Stellantis SWBQ. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and ERP/MRP systems (SAP preferred).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS ASQ
Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA). Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC) software such as Minitab or InfinityQS. Knowledge of AIAG reference manuals (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC). Familiarity with stamping die design, die maintenance, and tooling troubleshooting. Experience supporting
IATF 16949
third-party surveillance and re-certification audits. Background in IMDS (International Material Data System) submissions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to stamping presses, automated lines, and metalworking equipment. Ability to stand, walk the production floor, and lift up to 35 lbs as needed. Use of PPE including safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection required on the floor. Occasional travel to customer facilities, supplier sites, or sister plants may be required.
