Quality Engineering Manager

AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices based on our extensive IP and patent portfolio and designed for both commercial and government applications. Position Overview The Quality Engineering Manager is responsible for leading Quality Assurance efforts supporting the production of complex systems for a next-generation telecommunications satellite constellation. This role ensures that all products meet stringent quality, reliability, and compliance standards while driving continuous improvement across manufacturing operations. The position requires a strong leader capable of developing high-performing teams, optimizing quality systems, and partnering cross-functionally to meet production, cost, and schedule objectives. Key Responsibilities Lead and own all Quality Engineering activities, including inspection plan development, nonconformance management, and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) processes Establish, implement, and continuously improve quality systems, processes, and procedures to support production operations Oversee compliance planning and execution to ensure adherence to internal standards and regulatory requirements Manage and develop a team of Quality Engineers, ensuring performance, accountability, and professional growth Ensure manufactured products meet all quality standards while maintaining alignment with production schedules and cost targets Drive continuous improvement initiatives utilizing structured problem-solving methodologies Lead internal audits and support external audits as required; ensure effective closure of findings Develop and deliver training programs to enhance quality awareness, technical capability, and process adherence Partner with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Engineering, and Operations to resolve complex technical and performance issues Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and operational excellence across the team

Qualifications Education:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical field preferred

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years of experience supervising Quality Engineering teams (5+ direct reports) Experience leading quality operations within manufacturing or production environments Proven track record of driving quality improvements and resolving complex nonconformance issues Preferred Qualifications Experience in aerospace, telecommunications, or other high-reliability industries Working knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement methodologies Experience with quality management systems (QMS) and regulatory compliance frameworks Familiarity with production environments involving complex electromechanical systems Soft Skills Strong leadership presence with the ability to motivate, engage, and develop teams Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and drive alignment High level of accountability with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities Technology Stack Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Quality management and documentation systems (QMS tools preferred) Data analysis and reporting tools Physical Requirements Ability to work in a manufacturing and production environment May require standing, walking, and interacting with hardware for extended periods Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support production schedules This job description may not be inclusive to the duties and responsibilities listed.
