Job Description Department Reports To Position Type Revision Date Quality Quality Manager or Designee Full-Time / Non-Exempt April 30, 2026 Role Summary / Purpose The Quality Inspector Level 2 is responsible for inspecting machined work pieces and related documentation to verify conformance to drawings, work tickets, customer requirements, and applicable quality standards. This role is expected to complete timely and accurate inspections, maintain organized inspection records, support lab workflow, operate and program Zeiss CMM equipment, and communicate inspection status, delays, and quality concerns proactively. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Inspect machined work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, drawings, work tickets, customer requirements, and applicable quality standards. Interpret and follow written inspection instructions, quality requirements, customer specifications, and internal procedures. Perform first-run, in-process, and final inspections as required by the work ticket and inspection plan. Measure dimensions such as length, height, distance between reference points, angles, arcs, radii, and other specified features using appropriate precision instruments. Use precision inspection equipment including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, optical comparator, surface plate, angle plates, parallel bars, gauge blocks, V-blocks, and CMM measuring equipment. Operate, set up, and program Zeiss CMM equipment using Calypso, as assigned. Verify inspection equipment status before use and report equipment concerns, calibration issues, or suspected malfunctions immediately. Complete inspection reports, forms, and supporting documentation accurately, completely, and in the correct storage location. Review prior process steps, work-ticket quantities, documentation completeness, and product identification before accepting, approving, or releasing product. Communicate nonconformances, inspection delays, missing information, documentation issues, or quality concerns to supervision as soon as practicable. Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient inspection area and lab environment using 5S principles. Attend Daily Management meetings and be prepared to report inspection status, backlog, risks, delays, and quality concerns. Perform visual weld inspections in accordance with applicable codes, drawings, specifications, and customer requirements. Review weld documentation for accuracy and completeness, including weld maps, weld logs, WPS/PQR references, welder qualifications, and inspection records. Verify welds meet applicable acceptance criteria and document any nonconforming conditions in accordance with the quality program. Communicate weld quality concerns, required corrections, and inspection status to Quality, Production, and Welding personnel as needed.Qualifications / Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required. Currently hold an AWS Certified Weld Inspector certification preferred. Minimum two years of quality control, manufacturing, or quality inspection experience required. Minimum two years of experience using precision measuring instruments preferred. Working understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5-2009 or later preferred. Ability to read and interpret drawings, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), specifications, work instructions, inspection plans, and work tickets. Eligibility and Physical Requirements Ability to work day shift or split shift as assigned. Ability to lift, push, or pull at least 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to work occasional weekend shifts and overtime as required. Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, ear plugs, and safety shoes. Successful completion of a background check and drug screen, as applicable to company policy and customer requirements. Experience working in an NQA-1 2008/2009a, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, orISO 9001
2015 manufacturing environment preferred. Ability to follow written instructions and receive verbal direction for multiple tasks in a manufacturing shop environment. Ability to work with computerized shop-floor tools and electronic quality records. Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools, including Excel, Word, and Teams. Experience with Zeiss CMMs running Calypso preferred. Ability to prioritize work, communicate professionally, and support continuous improvement in the inspection process. Why work at Safariland?
