Quality Supervisor - Raw Materials Job Description The Quality Supervisor - Raw Materials oversees the quality of incoming raw materials, packaging, and fresh produce to ensure they meet defined chemical, physical, and microbiological specifications. This role maintains and executes Quality Assurance processes for raw material review and release, including SAP activities, deviation and exception handling, supplier quality management, and coordination of analytical and verification testing as defined in GLOBE inspection plans. The position works closely with purchasing, corporate quality, scheduling, operations, and laboratory teams to support timely, risk-based quality decisions. The Quality Supervisor plays a key role in raw material HACCP risk assessments and supplier risk evaluations, including participation in external audits of new raw material suppliers, and requires strong technical judgment, a sense of urgency in material release decisions, and the ability to operate with minimal backup in a 24/7 production environment. Responsibilities Oversee quality oversight of incoming raw materials, packaging, and fresh produce to ensure compliance with required chemical, physical, and microbiological specifications. Maintain and execute Quality Assurance processes for raw material review and release, including SAP-related activities and documentation. Manage deviation and exception handling for raw materials, ensuring timely investigation, documentation, and resolution. Coordinate supplier quality management activities, including communication with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure adherence to specifications. Facilitate analytical and verification testing of raw materials as defined in GLOBE inspection plans, ensuring appropriate sampling and test execution. Provide direction, guidance, and training to ensure all quality processes for raw and packaging materials are maintained and followed according to prescribed procedures. Develop and maintain appropriate sampling plans for raw and packaging materials to support timely chemical, physical, and microbiological testing. Communicate scheduling activities with Receiving and other facility departments to coordinate and plan sampling, testing, and release of incoming materials. Coordinate with outside laboratories to ensure testing is completed within specified time frames and results are received in proper formats. Communicate with purchasing teams and suppliers to ensure timely receipt of Certificates of Analysis (COAs) in specified formats, in line with vendor qualification levels. Ensure inspection plans are aligned with required testing and update them as needed to reflect current specifications and risk assessments. Serve as an active HACCP team member and maintain the Raw Material HACCP plan, risk assessments, and the corresponding Quality Management System (QMS) documentation. Support supplier risk evaluation activities, including limited participation in external audits of new and existing raw material suppliers. Collaborate closely with corporate purchasing and corporate quality teams to support vendor and specification updates and ensure alignment with corporate standards. Perform external supplier audits to verify supplier compliance with quality, food safety, and specification requirements. Make timely, risk-based decisions on material release, demonstrating strong technical judgment and an appropriate sense of urgency. Operate effectively with minimal backup in a 24/7 production environment, supporting quality-related decisions and escalations as needed. Partner with scheduling, operations, and laboratory teams to ensure raw material availability aligns with production needs while maintaining quality and food safety standards. Essential Skills Proven experience in quality assurance and quality control within a food manufacturing or similar regulated environment. Strong knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and their application to raw materials, packaging, and fresh produce. Demonstrated ability to manage and maintain quality processes for raw and packaging materials, including sampling plans and testing protocols. Experience coordinating chemical, physical, and microbiological testing of raw materials, including interpretation of results and release decisions. Proficiency with SAP or similar enterprise systems for managing raw material quality, inspection plans, and release workflows. Experience in deviation and exception handling, including investigation, documentation, and implementation of corrective actions. Strong understanding of HACCP principles and practical experience as a HACCP team member, particularly for raw material risk assessments. Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and their application to raw material and supplier quality programs. Ability to coordinate with external laboratories, including managing timelines, test requirements, and result formats. Strong communication skills for collaborating with purchasing, suppliers, corporate quality, operations, and laboratory teams. Demonstrated technical judgment and ability to make timely, risk-based decisions regarding material release in a production environment. Ability to operate with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, 24/7 production setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with GLOBE or similar inspection plan frameworks for analytical and verification testing. Background in food manufacturing, food science, chemistry, microbiology, or a related technical field. Experience participating in or leading external supplier audits to assess compliance with quality and food safety requirements. Familiarity with supplier qualification processes, vendor risk assessments, and ongoing supplier performance monitoring. Experience developing and updating inspection plans and testing requirements based on changing specifications and risk profiles. Training or certification in HACCP, food safety, or quality management is beneficial. Experience providing training and guidance to team members on quality procedures and GMP compliance. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing multiple materials, suppliers, and testing activities. Work Environment This role operates within the quality group of a food manufacturing facility, working closely with production, receiving, laboratory, and purchasing functions. The position follows a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the expectation of flexibility to meet with team members working on third shift in a 24/7 production environment. The work involves regular interaction with plant operations, laboratory testing areas, and office-based systems such as SAP and other quality management tools. The environment emphasizes adherence to food safety, GMP, and quality standards, with appropriate use of personal protective equipment and compliance with facility hygiene and safety requirements. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fremont, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $44.00/hr.
