Job Description
The Quality Assurance Specialist serves as a hands-on quality professional responsible for supporting and maintaining the company Quality Management System in accordance with
AS9100, ISO
9001, Nadcap, customer specifications, and internal procedures. This role assists the Quality Manager with daily quality operations and acts as a primary resource for production, suppliers, and customers regarding inspections, audits, corrective actions, compliance, and continuous improvement activities. The ideal candidate has experience working within a small-to-medium-sized aerospace manufacturing environment where responsibilities are broad, cross-functional, and operationally focused. This individual must be comfortable working independently, supporting multiple departments, and directly interfacing with aerospace customers, auditors, and suppliers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist the Quality Manager with maintaining and improving the Quality Management System. Develop and maintain in-process and final inspection plans. Perform in-process and final inspections to verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and internal standards. Review travelers, certifications, manufacturing documentation, and customer purchase order requirements for accuracy and compliance. Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and GD&T perANSI Y14.5.
Support and coordinate First Article Inspection (FAI) activities in accordance with AS9102 requirements. Maintain calibration systems and ensure calibration recall activities remain current. Prepare and maintain inspection records, nonconformance reports (NCRs), corrective actions, and quality documentation. Implement and verify corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Participate in AS9100, Nadcap, customer, supplier, and internal audits. Conduct supplier audits and support supplier corrective action activities. Support APQP, PPAP, and SPC activities related to process control, new product introduction, and continuous improvement. Support employee training initiatives related to quality requirements and inspection practices. Act as a liaison between manufacturing, engineering, suppliers, and customers regarding quality concerns and compliance issues. Respond to customer quality issues and support root cause investigations. Maintain controlled specifications, procedures, and quality records. Promote continuous improvement initiatives throughout manufacturing operations. Maintain safe work practices and housekeeping standards. Perform additional duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or quality-related education preferred. Minimum 5 years of quality inspection or quality assurance experience in aerospace manufacturing, machining, or investment casting environments. Must have experience working within a small-to-medium-sized business (SMB) manufacturing environment with broad, hands-on responsibilities. Experience supporting aerospace OEM, Tier 1, or aerospace prime customer requirements. Familiarity with customer requirements from companies such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney, Honeywell, GE Aerospace, Raytheon, or similar aerospace customers.Strong working knowledge of:
AS9100 Quality Management Systems AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements APQP methodologies PPAP requirements Root cause and corrective action systems Experience supporting AS9100, Nadcap, customer audits, source inspections, and corrective action activities. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T perANSI Y14.5.
Proficient with inspection equipment including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, surface plates, and fixture-based inspection tools. Experience determining inspection setups and measurement methods for tight-tolerance aerospace components. Strong understanding of nonconformance control and MRB support processes. Experience completing inspection documentation, travelers, logs, and ERP/MRP system entries. Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and quality documentation systems. Preferred Qualifications Aerospace investment casting experience strongly preferred. Nadcap audit experience. Internal auditor training or certification. Experience interacting directly with customer representatives during audits and source inspections. Experience with CMM inspection processes and interpretation of inspection reports. Experience implementing SPC programs and process capability studies. Familiarity with aerospace customer portals and approval systems.
