Position Summary:
The Quality Technician supports the Quality and Food Safety department by helping ensure that all products meet company, customer, and regulatory standards for safety, quality, consistency, and compliance. This role is responsible for performing routine inspections, conducting quality checks, collecting and reviewing product samples, documenting results, reporting deviations, and supporting corrective actions. The Quality Technician also assists with continuous improvement initiatives, food safety programs, audits, and employee training related to quality, hygiene, and food safety standards. Competencies & Activities Quality Inspections & Product Testing Perform routine quality checks on raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to ensure compliance with company and customer specifications. Conduct inspections and testing as required by internal procedures, customer requirements, and food safety standards. Collect, label, review, and retain product samples according to customer and company requirements. Monitor product quality, packaging, labeling, and overall condition throughout production. Verify that products meet established safety, quality, and consistency standards prior to release or further processing. Good Safety & Production Compliance Monitor production operations to verify adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP requirements, sanitation expectations, and food safety standards. Ensure production employees are following hygiene, food safety, and quality procedures during daily operations. Report food safety concerns, quality issues, or potential risks promptly to the Quality Manager and appropriate production leadership. Support compliance with company policies, customer requirements, regulatory guidelines, and applicable certification programs. Documentation & Quality Records Document inspection results, test results, quality checks, and product observations accurately and timely. Maintain organized and complete quality assurance records in accordance with company procedures. Assist with writing, reviewing, and updating policies, procedures, work instructions, SSOPs, and related quality documentation. Ensure records are completed clearly, accurately, and in compliance with regulatory and GFSI scheme requirements. Communicate documentation gaps, errors, or missing records to the appropriate supervisor or manager. Deviations, Corrective Actions & Continuous Improvement Report deviations, nonconformities, or out-of-specification results promptly. Work with production and quality leadership to support corrective and preventive actions. Assist with root cause analysis related to product quality, food safety concerns, and process failures. Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve product consistency, quality systems, and food safety performance. Follow up on assigned corrective actions to ensure proper completion and documentation. Equipment, Calibration & Testing Instruments Assist with the calibration, operation, cleaning, and maintenance of quality testing equipment and instruments. Verify that testing tools and instruments are functioning properly before use. Report equipment issues, damaged instruments, or calibration concerns to the Quality Manager. Maintain calibration and equipment records as assigned. Audits & Certification Support Participate in internal and external audits, including FDA, BRC, Non-GMO, Organic, Gluten-Free, and other certification programs. Assist with gathering records, documents, samples, and evidence needed for audits. Support follow-up activities related to audit findings, observations, or corrective actions. Maintain awareness of regulatory and certification requirements that apply to the facility. Training & Employee Support Support training of production employees on quality standards, GMPs, food safety, hygiene practices, and related procedures. Reinforce proper quality and food safety practices during daily production activities. Communicate quality expectations clearly and professionally to production employees and supervisors. Escalate repeated noncompliance or training concerns to the Quality Manager. Required Qualifications Quality experience in the food manufacturing industry. Experience working in a food facility with a GFSI scheme certification. Some experience writing or assisting with policies, procedures, SSOPs, work instructions, or related quality documentation. Knowledge of regulatory and food safety requirements applicable to food manufacturing. Ability to work in a production environment and follow all safety, hygiene, and food safety requirements. Ability to complete accurate documentation and communicate quality concerns promptly. Key Competencies Strong attention to detail and accuracy in inspections, testing, and documentation. Working knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, food safety standards, and quality assurance practices. Ability to identify deviations, nonconformities, and potential food safety risks. Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to communicate effectively with production employees, supervisors, managers, and auditors. Ability to follow written procedures, specifications, and customer requirements. Ability to work in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. Professional judgment when handling quality concerns, product holds, and sensitive compliance matters. Team-oriented approach with the ability to support production while maintaining quality and food safety standards. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling company, customer, and audit-related information.
