Job Description

Job Title:
Quality Control Technician - $20-$28 based on overall experience. Job Description The Quality Control Technician plays a key role in ensuring that custom OEM electrical control panels meet customer specifications and regulatory requirements. This position focuses on final inspection, electrical testing, documentation of quality results, and maintaining compliance with UL 508A and other relevant electrical standards. The technician maintains calibration records for test equipment, stays current with UL standards, and provides regular quality oversight updates to departmental leadership. Responsibilities Perform final inspection and testing of electrical control systems in accordance with complex blueprints, electrical schematics, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements. Conduct testing on energized electrical control systems using appropriate test equipment and established procedures. Maintain a high level of attention to detail and efficiency while working in a fast-paced production environment. Analyze and troubleshoot test failures to identify root causes and implement appropriate corrective actions. Provide technical assistance and support to the Quality Control department on inspection and testing issues. Collaborate closely with Design and Manufacturing Engineering personnel to establish and refine documentation required for manufacturing quality products. Interact with other departments and leadership to resolve issues that arise during the inspection and test process. Train lower-level inspectors and production personnel to reduce defects, minimize rework, and improve overall product quality. Attend meetings as required and carry out assigned action items related to quality and process improvements. Participate in special projects that support process improvement initiatives and the Quality Management System. Maintain accurate and complete records of all tested products, including test results, issues found, and resolutions. Assist in the design and manufacture of test fixtures to improve testing efficiency and consistency. Assist in documenting test procedures to ensure repeatable and compliant test processes. Maintain records of calibrated tools and test equipment, ensuring they remain within calibration intervals. Stay current with UL 508A and other applicable electrical standards and apply this knowledge to daily quality control activities. Support scheduling efficiencies by planning and executing inspection and testing activities to meet production timelines. Provide weekly oversight updates on quality performance and issues to the department supervisor. Essential Skills 3-5 years of experience in an electrical testing environment. Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematic drawings, blueprints, and diagrams. Proficiency with electrical test equipment, including hi-pot testers, meters, power supplies, transformers, and other electronic test devices. Hands-on experience performing electrical testing and quality inspection of control panels or industrial control systems. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify and correct root causes of product test failures. Demonstrated ability to maintain excellent attention to detail, focus, and quality in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of electrical industry standards, including NFPA 70 and UL 508A. Experience testing energized industrial control systems. Ability to provide technical assistance and communicate effectively with quality, engineering, and production teams. Capability to maintain accurate records and documentation related to tested products and test activities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Completion and successful passing of the
UL 508A MTR
course and certification, with course costs covered by the employer. Formal education or technical certification in an electrical discipline. Experience working in a UL 508A certified electrical panel or control panel environment. Experience in quality control, quality assurance, or quality inspection within an electrical or manufacturing setting. Familiarity with quality management systems and continuous improvement practices. Ability to assist in the design and manufacture of test fixtures and the documentation of test procedures. Experience providing training or mentoring to inspectors or production personnel on quality and testing practices. Comfort working from detailed blueprints, diagrams, and specification documents to meet customer and regulatory requirements. Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a first-shift position with standard hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime as needed. The role is based in an electrical panel shop environment focused on building and testing OEM electrical control panels. Work involves frequent use of electrical test equipment such as hi-pot testers, meters, power supplies, transformers, and other electronic test devices, as well as regular interaction with blueprints, electrical schematics, and quality documentation. The setting is fast-paced and production-oriented, with close collaboration among quality, engineering, and production teams to meet customer and regulatory requirements. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hixson, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.
