Job Description
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Under general guidance, reports to the Parks & Recreation Manager .SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervises activities/programs, volunteers and other staff as assigned.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains effective communication with manager and staff. Plans, implements and supervises/oversees programming initiatives offered by the department. Supports TB Thomas Sports Center programming & outreach initiatives including but not limited to supervision requirements via rotating/cycled schedule. Promote/create programming initiatives at all City Parks & Recreation locations as assigned. Provide support and logistical assistance to organizations and local organizing committees during the planning and execution phase of events. Responsible for applying for accommodation and hospitality tax funds and other revenues as appropriate. Serves as a liaison to the SCSA (South Carolina Sports Alliance). Update and manage sports related digital data. Create itineraries for all group segments for use in printed marketing materials and online. Assist with and/or facilitate marketing materials in print, electronically, and via social media. Create/recruit sport events leads that develop into definite business. Participate in sales calls, market trade shows and events to increase sport event opportunities. Attendance at sport event conferences and sport event travel shows as required. Research, prepare and manage bid opportunities to host local and national sports events. Responsible for working weekend tournaments and special events as assigned. Assists the maintenance staff with ballfield maintenance during league and tournament games. Recommend new / improved equipment at the T.B. Thomas facility Opens and closes facilities for public use; sets up and tears down or events as instructed. Assists with enforcing facility rules and regulation at all recreation facilities. May workdays, evenings, or weekends according to the business need; may be on-call for emergency situations. Participates in safety training, make suggestions as necessary; serve on committees or inspection teams when appropriate. Works according to good safety practices as posted, instructed, and/or discussed. Reports unsafe conditions or defects in equipment. Refrains from any unsafe behavior or act that might endanger self or fellow worker(s). Reports all accidents and incidents (including near misses) as soon as they occur. Follows safety rules and regulations and uses personal protective equipment. Assists with developing and conducting regular evaluation and assessments of recreation programs. Works with the Parks and Recreation Director with planning, promoting, coordinating, and supervising applicable recreational programs. Aids in seeking funds for recreational programs through sponsorships, fundraisers, and grants. Maintains prompt and regular attendance; adheres to City policies and procedures regarding absences and tardiness. Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers. May be required to report to the City's Emergency Operations Center for emergency duty anytime the Emergency Operations Plan is activated.PERIPHERAL DUTIES
Opens and closes facility at appropriate times. Assists other divisions/departments and agencies in the planning and execution of activities and event Performs other related duties as assigned to meet organizational goals. May serve on various employee committees as assigned.DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Minimum Education:
Associates degree required. Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management or related field preferred. Consideration will be given for a combination of education and related work experience. Work Experience in Positions Similar or Related toThis Job:
Three years related experience in the field of recreation; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of sports tourism, marketing, promotions, event planning, and volunteer organization. Working knowledge of personal computers, including Microsoft Office, Website, and social media; Skill in the operation of the listed tools and equipment.Ability to:
communicate effectively orally and in writing with owners, supervisors, volunteers, and the public. Knowledge of recreation programs planning, administration, and supervision principles and practices.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess: Certifications in CPR and First Aid. 2 South Carolina Driver's licenseTOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Computer, with extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office; motor vehicle; calculator; phone; copier, fax,, and other related equipment.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
