Job Description
Overview The Louisville Recreation Center is excited to hire a Recreation Supervisor II for Youth and Adult Sports for our team! Under the administrative direction of the Recreation and Senior Services Superintendent, performs responsible planning, organizing, and managerial work in directing the City's adult and youth sports programs. Work includes developing or assisting in the development of programs and activities designed to address the leisure time needs of a broad spectrum of City residents. Exercises independence in judgment and decision-making within established policy. Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, and reports, and the results obtained. Acts as a generalist within the division to support facility operations, special events, maintenance week, and other special projects. Performs other work as required. Hiring Range (depending on experience): $72,529.60 to $85,217.60

Develops and implements schedules for a wide range of sports programs, leagues, tournaments, and special events, including soccer, flag football, pickleball, basketball, and additional seasonal offerings. Creates program descriptions for the Recreation Catalog and social media; collaborates with Communications staff on marketing materials. Builds team rosters, schedules leagues and tournaments, and enforces program rules and regulations. Coordinates program registration processes and provides RecTrac support for registrations, reservations, and customer inquiries. Prepares detailed budgetary, statistical, and narrative reports; assists with program budget development, cost-recovery monitoring, and revenue/expenditure tracking. Manages purchasing and inventory of sports equipment and supplies. Oversees accounts payable and payroll for athletic staff and supports capital improvement planning for program areas. Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates part-time and seasonal staff, including the Sports Assistant/Manager on Duty. Assigns work schedules, supervises staff on weeknights, weekends, and holidays, and ensures high-quality customer service and program delivery. Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteer coaches and collects background checks for all staff and volunteers to provide to human resources Attends and assists with training seminars, coaching clinics, staff meetings, and community meetings. Works closely with Parks and Facilities Maintenance teams to ensure fields, courts, gyms, and program spaces are safe and prepared for practices, games, rentals, and drop-in use. Conducts safety checks, eliminates hazards, and provides building and grounds security. Oversees indoor gym operations, equipment upkeep, and readiness of program areas. Coordinates partnerships with community agencies, schools, municipalities, co-sponsored groups (e.g., Louisville Youth Baseball Association, Monarch Little League), and vendors to expand program offerings and ensure successful operations. Serves as the primary liaison for field and court rentals, managing applications, executing rental agreements, and coordinating with park maintenance teams. Responds to citizen inquiries, complaints, and requests for information; represents the department at meetings and community events. Collaborates with Recreation Center staff to support facility operations and maintain strength and cardio equipment. Supports special projects and additional duties as assigned to ensure smooth and effective recreation operations.ESSENTIAL SUPERVISORY DUTIES
Develops and/or participates in the development of staff work plans, measures and tracks progress towards goals, and prepares and conducts timely and constructive performance appraisals. Makes decisions or recommendations regarding hiring, promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, and other personnel matters as necessary. Coaches, counsels, and supports staff to maximize efficiency and effectiveness. Consistently educates and advises staff on organizational rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Encourages creative thinking and problem solving and supports participatory decision making when appropriate. Provides training and job enrichment opportunities for direct reports and encourages professional growth and development.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Completion of a bachelor's degree program at an accredited college or university with major course work in Leisure Studies, Recreation Administration, or Physical Education. 3 (Three) years' work experience in municipal recreation programs at the supervisory level.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Comprehensive knowledge of youth and adult sports, including rules, gameplay standards, and best practices for administering leagues, tournaments, and recreational programs. Strong understanding of public recreation principles, including program development, community engagement, and participant experience. Awareness of sociological and psychological needs of diverse participant groups, ensuring programs support positive development, inclusion, and well-being. Knowledge of promotional and public relations techniques, with the ability to support marketing efforts and represent the City professionally. Knowledge of modern management methods, including staff supervision, volunteer coordination, performance evaluation, and workflow planning. Ability to train, supervise, and support volunteers and staff, ensuring understanding of program rules, safety expectations, and customer service standards. Ability to plan, assign, coordinate, direct, and evaluate work, maintaining high operational standards across multiple program areas. Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally in person, by phone, email, and video conferencing. Ability to maintain effective public relations and build positive relationships with participants, parents, officials, coworkers, and partner organizations. Proficiency with RecTrac, including entering program information, managing registrations, creating schedules, and generating reports. Strong technical skills, with the ability to use software and digital tools to enhance operations, communication, and customer service. Excellent customer service skills, both internal and external, with a focus on responsiveness, clarity, and problem resolution. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations, demonstrating strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Highly organized, with the ability to maintain records, prepare reports, monitor budgets, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Strong business acumen, including the ability to develop, manage, and monitor program budgets. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and communicate expectations clearly to others. Ability to direct the work of others, including part-time staff, volunteers, and contracted personnel. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by program schedules and seasonal demands.LICENSE, REGISTRATION, OR CERTIFICATE
