Registered Nurse

UPMC Children's Hospital North is seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join our Surgery Center Operating Room team as an OR Circulator. This Monday-Friday role offers a consistent daytime schedule (7:00 AM - 5:30 PM) with a rotating weekday off—no evenings, nights, weekends, or holidays—allowing for an excellent work-life balance. Responsibilities:

Provides advanced clinical expertise and serves as a unit clinical resource. Applies the nursing process within Relationship Based Care to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Develops and documents individualized plans of care with patient involvement; ensures accurate, comprehensive clinical documentation. Demonstrates advanced assessment, critical thinking, and analytical skills to address clinical, safety, and psychosocial issues. Communicates patient status and care plans effectively across the interdisciplinary team; recommends care modifications as needed. Participates in peer review, quality improvement initiatives, and evidence-based practice implementation. Identifies and supports clinical quality and operational improvement opportunities. Precepts and educates staff, students, and new hires; contributes to ongoing clinical competency development. Participates in shared governance and interdisciplinary teams; may lead clinical initiatives or projects. Applies organizational, regulatory, and patient safety standards in daily practice. Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience & Education:

Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. OR experience preferred. If BSN is held, a Master's degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of certification. Certification is not required if a Master's in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is held.

Professional Development:

Annual completion of one professional contribution aligned with department, hospital, or system goals, as approved by the Unit Director through UPMC's My Nursing Career Ladder program OR attainment of professional certification. Must achieve and maintain a rating of Solid/Strong/Good or higher on the Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation to attain and retain this level. Clinical Knowledge & Competencies Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to patients across the lifespan. Applies principles of growth and development to assess patient status and interpret clinical data. Identifies and delivers care based on age-specific patient needs in accordance with department policies and procedures. Exhibits strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills in all aspects of patient care. Leads and supports others in the effective application of the nursing process. Physical & Functional Requirements Requires mobility, visual acuity, and manual dexterity. Must have the physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) : In the state where the facility is located, or A multistate license under the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC), if applicable. Employees who relocate to a state where the facility is located must apply for in-state licensure within 60 days of residency change.

Certifications Required:

Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Must meet American Heart Association (AHA) standards, including both didactic and skills demonstration, within 30 days of hire . CNOR is preferred, not required. UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran.
